In India, dental myths are too common.

More people are afraid of going to the dentist because they feel that all the procedures will be painful.

Some even think that going to a dentist every two months for routine checkup is a complete waste of time.

Dental experts busted some of the most common myths surrounding Indian dentistry and the practice of keeping your teeth healthy and strong:

1. Myth – We should brush our teeth as many time as we can even if it’s 5-6 times a day. While we think that is a good idea, ideally brushing your teeth that many times a day will actually harm your enamel.

2. Myth – Sugar is the main culprit causing cavities. Cavities do not occur because of sugar particles in your mouth. It occurs because the bacteria in your mouth produces acids that harm your enamel.

3. Myth – Teeth whitening is harmful for your enamel. Too much of anything is always bad for your health. Teeth whitening is a very carefully done process and if done properly, without too much bleaching, is not harmful.

4. Myth – Chew on sugarless gum after meals and there will be no need to brush your teeth. Eat a heavy breakfast and there will be no need even for dinner! No matter what you read or what you eat, nothing can replace brushing or any dental care routine just like that. Your dentist will help you to debunk some common dental myths.
