Wider Curriculum

This Friday would have been our year 3 sleepover. Just because we are at home does not mean we cannot have fun and have a go at some of the activities we would have done at the sleepover! Sock Puppets Follow the instructions below to make your own sock puppet. Decorate it to make it into any animal you like! Perhaps you could make more than one and treat your family to a puppet show! Orienteering At school we would have orienteered around the field. Perhaps you can set up your own at home orienteering course. British Orienteering have designed some great resources to help you design your own course, create your own map and markers. Have a look at lots of the ideas here: https://www.britishorienteering.org.uk/Home_Resources?fbclid=IwAR3ds4EuCdfSh1RFeuu8DZZZmhUkpi2lX6k9i1iRnMMUBbHstXeYo2imC5w

You will need to hide some markers (or toys, or even treats) around your house or your garden. You will then need to design a map of your garden or your home and mark on your map where you have hidden the markers. Then see if someone else in your family can find them by accurately reading your map! I have included the page for designing your own map below in case you would like to use it. Compass We would have learnt to use a compass and have marked out north, south, east and west. If you do have a compass at home, maybe you could try this in your home. (If you do not have a compass- there is an app that you may be able to use on a tablet). Perhaps on your orienteering map you could mark on north, south, east and west. Decorate biscuits or bake We would have decorated biscuits to have as a delicious snack! We would use writing icing and sprinkles- maybe you can give this a go at home. Or if you would prefer, you could bake your own delicious snack! Sleepover As long as it is okay with your grown-ups at home maybe you could have a special sleepover in your house. Eat the snack you made, watch a fun film you enjoy and play with your sock puppet. Perhaps you could even sleep somewhere special…in your living room, build a den to sleep in in your bedroom, or even in a tent in the garden! Remember it must be all okay with your parents! French Have a look at Mme Emsden’s activity on SeeSaw. Choir and Dance Videos Mrs Pain is missing Choir and Dance club so has been busy making some videos for you to join in with! Anybody can have a go! You can find them by clicking on the link below: http://homelearning.mytchett.kite.academy/

If you manage to get through all of these learning tasks – as well as reading, mental maths practice and spelling practice - and are looking for more, explore our school website where you will find a schedule of live lessons and lots of helpful resources for you to take your learning further. https://www.mytchett.kite.academy/virtual-learning/

Maths Task 2 Angles are a measure of a turn. An angle is created when two straight lines meet at a point.

A right angle is made when two lines meet like this: We measure angles in degrees, which we show using a little circle. For example: a right angle is always 90°. When something makes a quarter turn, it turns a right angle- 90°.

Questions 1) Complete the sentences below: An angle is made when two___________________ lines meet at a point.

If I turn 90°, I will have made a_____________________ turn.

90° is the size of a __________________ angle.

2) Circle the pictures below that show angles:

3) If I start facing the circle each time, which shape will I be facing

after the following turns?

a) A quarter turn anticlockwise

b) A three-quarter turn clockwise

c) A 90° turn clockwise

Sock Puppet instructions

1) Find an old, clean sock. It can be any color you like, and it

should be long enough for you to stick your arm in. Preferably,

on a smaller arm, the sock should almost reach the elbow.

2) Make two eyes at the bottom of the sock, in the toe end. If

you have googly eyes you could use these, otherwise you

could cut out a piece of other material to glue on or draw eyes

on with felt tip.

3) Once you have done the eyes, stick your hand in, with the

top of your hand where the bottom of your foot would be, and

form your hand into the shape of a mouth. Your arm should

look like a snake.

4) Decorate the puppet to turn it into any animal you like! You could use felt tips (or fabric pens if

you have them), other material you could attach, beads and buttons, wool, you could even have a go

at sewing!
