Here's how it works.

Over the next N days, you receive a deck of Dixitlike cards. A Mystical Dreamer deckconsists of 25 images saved in an album on imgur. Try to make 25 cards of your own andsend them to me in a zip file. These will be shuffled with the cards provided by otherplayers, uploaded to the web, and sent to you as an album. If you don't reach 25, theremaining cards will be provided for you.

If you haven't played actual Dixit, the cards are surreal dreamlike images. A good image isopen to multiple interpretations. Use images you find on Reddit or from your camera orscreenshots.

When the collection period is over, we play Dixit!1. Someone decides to be the Dreamer. The Dreamer can be anyone who hasn't been theDreamer yet this cycle, just the first person to claim the role.2. The Dreamer selects a card and uploads it to http://imgur.com/ but doesn't show us.They announce a hint for the card; the hint can be anything at all. They submit the URL tothe DreamBot http://blubber.space/dreamer.html .3. Everyone else also selects a card which fits the hint and submits the URL to theDreamBot. They make a post saying they submitted. Your "hand" is your entire deck, butyou cannot reuse cards.4. The Dreamer Bot randomizes the order of the URLs it receives, adds BBCode markup,and sends the results to the GM, who posts it. 5. Everyone tries to guess which image is the one submitted by the Dreamer. They do thisby submitting their guess to the GM, who doesn't read the guesses.6. If the Dreamer's card was picked by SOME players but not ALL players, the Dreamer andall the correct guessers score three (3) points. If ZERO or ALL players pick the Dreamer'scard, the Dreamer gets zero (O) points and everyone else gets two (2). Also, eachnonDreamer player gets a (1) point for everyone who guessed their card was the Dreamer'scard. (you can't guess your own card).So you get points for guessing the correct card, for having a card that fools others, and forbeing the Dreamer and getting a nonzero, non100% amount of players to choose your card.

Rules for speed:If the eligible new Dreamers don't start a round within a reasonable period of time,



everyone becomes eligible again. If you don't submit a card within a reasonable period of time, you're just out for that round.

You don't count as a player at all.

I like this idea and could be fine.


my suggestion and I think you hinted at this, was that we have some sort of control set ofcards. I don't want people to just go and basically invent cards as they go for a certainclue. I want it to be limited to what they already had.

I guess what I am saying is that we make the "cards" and then have something randomlydistribute who gets what "card" without other players knowing.

What I imagined is that your deck/hand of 50 is set for the whole game and cannot bechanged.

Are you proposing that you might have some of my cards and vice versa? A draft could befun but then people would have seen some of the cards. I'm sure it would be possible toautomate the task.

I'm working on the technologies for this game.

For Greg's idea, it's probably easiest just to have people send me their albums as a zip or asan imgur album which I can download. I'll randomize them on my own machine and uploadthem into albums for each player. Imgur has an API but it's not worth the effort.

For the DreamerBot, I am learning SQL anyway.

I have created all the tools we need for this game. We can start as soon as everyone isready.

For deck building, I think we should try Greg's idea. Everyone will send their files to me as azip or as a link to an imgur album or i can accept dropbox and google drive. Whatever. I'llget all your images on my computer, use a tool that appends a random number to everyfilename in a folder, divide them up evenly, upload each deck to imgur as an album, andsend you a link to an album (which I won't look at). Sounds complicated but it only takes about 30 seconds. 50 might be too large of a deck. Let's try 25 instead. I've been adding to mine since I hadthis idea and I only just now hit 25.I think we can remove the rule of images being 600x600. Just make sure they're areasonable filesize.

For played cards, I have an online page that accepts username (just in case) and imgur urlsas inputs, adds them to a database, and i can pull them into a randomized order completewith BBCode markup. No need for me to see the username.

Anyway, start adding to your collections in earnest. Let me know when you're done.

Real Dixit works best with six players, it seems to me.

this is the rough equivalent to people talking outside the game in twg. i think mysticboardsis mature/fair enough or at the very least values fun over winning, so i don't really see thisas an issue or likely possibility. people should be aware if they are to sign up, part of therequirement is making a deck beforehand. if we're going to have a GM, it might be worthrequiring everyone to submit their decks as a prerequisite for signing up, or maybe just as aprerequisite to being included in the game when it starts

this is a good point and i like the idea of everyone submitting a number of cards. i also likeit being a lenient amount, and maybe even asking for an ideal minimum but not making it astrict requirement and then having a hard maximum

this would eliminate the possibility of a 25 card requirement deterring people who want toplay a simple and fun mysticboards social game but not collect a bunch of pictures for it. idon't think this takes away from the fun, and i think it's better to have too few cards thantoo many. we can always decrease the number of rounds or make it arbitrary and mostlyjust for fun or something if it increases the odds that more people will play and enjoy it withus

or maybe have a rough ideal number of total cards based on the number of people and justhave people submit as many as they want, starting first with everyone getting an equalnumber and then filling in the rest from what other people don't want to submit. like sayyou submit 30 cards and specify 25 that you definitely want in and then 5 that can either goin if we need more or be saved for a future round

i don't really see any issue with people being aware or even unevenly aware [ie if oneperson gets mostly cards they submitted and one person gets almost none of the cards theysubmitted, causing the latter player to have a much greater awareness of the total pool ofsubmitted cards]. i don't think it would really makes it any less fun or fair.

i also like the idea of adding the option to vote on cards we think are really really good[zum Beispiel iron you including original dixit cards] to keep around as standards for futuregames. idk

in any case, i'm in. someone should tell kc and maria since they seemed to really enjoy thegame when we all played it at kingsstreakers

it's also potentially worth suggesting that people peruse the original dixit decks to get abetter feel for the kind of weird shit that is included. i think the game runs the risk of beinga lot less fun if the cards aren't wildly weird and trippy [this is what really sold the game as





amazing to me. because it was very often hilarious and also difficult to pick one or veryeasy for people to fool others into picking theirs] or if some are and some are more normalpictures of everyday life things


I already made a myxit bot, as I explained earlier. There is no need for a GM.

Each round, you submit the imgur url of your card to the bot, which delivers it anonymouslyto me. All I have to do is paste it here.

Yeah if somebody doesn't have 25 cards that is fine. It will get evened out in the end.

Also, I have almost 50 cards now (some deserve to be discarded though), so if someonewants to join in a later round, they can mix their deck with my spares or something.

My justification for using it was similar, I think, to Modi's caribou picture an entity literallyin search for a Dreamer. Since rocks can't move or like have souls, I imagined it wanting adreamer to make it more interesting or something.

That elephant who was going to go around the world in 80 days is making us alloverestimate the ability to interpret traveler's motives.

The Dreamerbot is all set up for a new Dreamer.

I thiink I saw a paper within the past year suggesting that they might actually slide on thinlayers of water/ice in the winter the cracks on the ground suggest recentish moisture; apermanent desert would have gone to sand.

I agree about standardizing images and in fact I thought I had done that but I did it wrong.


Yeah I'd like to play with a deck of my own building (I had to reinstall windows right beforewe started and didn't have that backed up) I don't know how many cards I have left but abunch of them are lame :P Also now we have better ideas of what sort of images aregood/funny.

I've been keeping a folder of all the pictures I haven't used yet (and deleting them as I usethem). It's a little bit if a hassle that I then have to go online and find the url, but it workspretty well to keep track of which ones I've used.


It's also possible to look in the second post, where I've hyperlinked every card reveal. Alsoa hassle though.

Guy, how were the expanding thingies? I want to make them half again as large by defaultnext time; I feel we lose out on details at this size.

Also an important part of Modi's image got cut off in the expanded view : / I don't think Ihave any control over that.But in the future, know that you can "Open in new tab" if a pic doesn't display well here.

It's really interesting how much harder it is to give clues as your deck dwindles. Look atthis, three failed Dreamers in a row.

I set up the next round, which should ideally be either Guy or Narwhal. If after three daysthey haven't submitted, I guess we will give someone else a chance.

Also Arvixe changed a lot of their serverside stuff so please be careful about yoursubmissions. Check to make sure the count goes up after you turn it in.

gather 25 images, send as zip to Iron receive link from Iron; this is now our deck each player gets a turn to play their own buzz words other players sends an image from their deck best matching that word to Iron All submitted images are laid out, and players who submitted vote on which image will bepicked points are assigned

did I miss anything?

That's about right. You missed two things I'd like to bring up:Step 4: You don't submit matching images to me personally once the game begins, yousubmit them to my bot, which I'll link you to. The bot collates the images and keeps themanonymous.Step 1: When gathering images, make sure that they are safe for work, and try to get zanyimages.

We'll do an official signup thread later but you can definitely start gathering pics now.
