A bowl of hot, healthy soup, a tray of crunchy veggies, a rowdy football game…fall is right around

the corner! I love the changing of seasons. But this year, my thoughts are focused on heavier issues that I believe we as Christians need to get a hold of.

This issue of Make Your Day Count magazine is a collection of timely and thought-provoking articles that can inspire you to step up your prayer life, to keep your family covered by the blood of Jesus, and to rely on the guidance of the Holy Spirit every day.

My article—Is Fear Trying to Attack You?—can give you a refresher course on standing against the wiles of the enemy. If the devil can keep us bound up in fear, then he can render us

ineffective in these times. We can have a showdown with the devil in order to rise up with victory.

And I love my mother-in-law Evelyn Roberts’ wise reminder to make absolutely sure our children know that Jesus loves them, no matter what, in Jesus Loves the Children.

I pray you’ll enjoy this collection of articles, recipes, and inspiration. I believe that it will encourage you to spiritually stand up in the face of spiritual adversity and declare that you are going to MAKE IT COUNT for the glory of God!

When I was eight months pregnant with our f irst daughter, Jordan, I really got

into fear. I knew that fear was not from God, but through experiences I had gone through, I had received fear into my life—I had “signed for the package” and accepted it as mine.

One night when I was in bed, the devil began to play with my mind. He brought up before me memories of how I’d almost had a hysterectomy, of my dad dying of cancer, of miscarriages, surgeries, and the death of our firstborn son. And I was only in my twenties at

the time. As he reminded me of things in my past, I let him put a terrifying fear in my heart.

The feeling was so strong, I felt like satan was trying to physically put something on me. The only way I can explain it is that it was what the Bible calls a “spirit of fear.”

I began to shake, and I felt like I was burning up. When I woke up Richard, he said, “Honey, are you sick?” Through my tears, I cried, “I’m terrified, Richard! I cannot have this baby! The devil told me if I go into labor, he’ll kill me and the baby.” I wanted my husband to do

something. I’ll never forget how he looked at me and said, “Lindsay, you need to pray.”

ShowdownwiththedevilThat was the last thing I wanted

to hear. Richard said, “Lindsay, this has plagued you since you were 18 years old and they told you that you could not have children. You’ve allowed it long enough.” And he was absolutely right. He said, “Go in the other room, shut the door, and don’t come out until you’ve had a ‘showdown’ with the devil and you’ve told him, ‘No, devil! I refuse to live in fear anymore.’”

At first I was mad at Richard, but in my heart I knew he was right. I had to face this thing head-on, and now I was getting mad at the devil. I walked in the room, ready to face my fear and stay in that room until victory was mine. What I didn’t know was that on the other side of that door, Richard was praying and believing for me to be set free from fear.

I remember drawing a line in the carpet with my heel, stepping across it, and saying, “Here’s the line of faith and fear, devil. I’m on the side of faith, and I’m not walking on the other side again.” Then I said, “If your power is greater than God’s, just kill me right now. But if I’m still breathing at the end of this conversation, you will never do this to me again.”

Suddenly, I realized, I’m not dead! I’m still here! The fear and torment that had me in its grip just

faded away. I was completely delivered by the power of the Lord. In just a few weeks, I went into the hospital and had a perfectly normal birth without being gripped in fear. And to this day, people comment that Jordan has always been such an “easy” child—so full of God’s peace.

When she sings, I’m amazed at comments people say that include the word peace.

WhatGoddidforme,Hecandoforyou!I believe what God did for me,

He can do for you as well, as you h a v e y o u r “ s howd ow n” with the devil and believe God for a miracle of deliverance in your life. Let’s join in a prayer of agreement:

Father, You told us in 1 John 4:18 that Your perfect love casts out all fear. We claim Your perfect love for us right now, and we cast out all demonic fear from our lives. By the authority of the Word of God and in the name of Jesus, we speak directly to fear, and to any spirit of fear, and we command you to take your hands off God’s property. You loose us and let us go free by the power and blood of Jesus Christ. We take authority over this situation and command you to f lee, satan. In Jesus’ name. Amen Y

COOKING with Jordan

Ingredients2 pounds lean ground beef3 (15 ounce) cans chili beans, drained2 (28 ounce) cans diced tomatoes with juice1 (6 ounce) can tomato paste1 large yellow onion, chopped3 stalks celery, chopped1 green bell pepper, seeded and chopped1 red bell pepper, seeded and chopped1/4 cup chili powder or to taste1 tablespoon minced garlic

1 tablespoon dried oregano2 teaspoons ground cumin2 teaspoons hot sauce or to taste (I use

tabasco)1 teaspoon salt1 teaspoon ground black pepper1 teaspoon cayenne pepper1 teaspoon paprika1 (8 ounce) package shredded cheddar cheese1/4 cup chopped red onion (garnish)

DirectionsIn a large stock pot over medium-high heat, cook the ground beef until no pink is visible, and the meat is completely done. Drain off excess fat. Add in the chili beans, diced tomatoes, and tomato paste. Add the chopped onion, celery, green and red bell peppers, and all seasonings. Stir well, then cover and simmer over low heat for at least 2 hours, stirring occasionally. I usually try to simmer for more like 3-4 hours, as these type of dishes only get better with increased simmering time. Taste after two hours and adjust seasonings as necessary—you might need a little more salt, pepper, cayenne, etc. to your liking. Remove from heat and serve with cheddar cheese and chopped red onions, or refrigerate for later.

CHILI (one of my very favorite Fall dishes!)

Page 9: MYDC: September/October 2012

Ingredients3 pounds chuck roast2 cups beef stock1 package onion soup mix1 can cream of mushroom soup1 1/2 cups carrots (I use baby carrots)1 1/2 cups small red potatoes, cut in half

(save these for later in the cooking process)

3 tablespoons cooking oil ( I use coconut oil for everything, but any high heat cooking oil will do.)

DirectionsSear the roast in a pan over medium high heat on all sides, creating a “crust” on the meat about 1-2 minutes per side in a hot pan. Remove from heat and place into a slow cooker. Add carrots next to the roast. Mix the soup mix, stock, and soup together and pour over roast and carrots. Reserve the potatoes for later. Cook on low heat for 8 hours (or high heat for 4 hours if you’re in a hurry). At the 6 hour mark on low (or the 3 hour mark on high), add in the potatoes. They will be very mushy if you put them in a the beginning—but do so if you like them that way. Serve warm.

POTROAST (another one of my favorite Fall recipes!)

BACKTOSCHOOLVEGGIEDIP

Sliced veggies of your choice (I use baby carrots, celery sticks, raw broccoli, sliced red bell peppers and sliced cucumbers)

16 ounce carton of plain greek yogurtPackage of frozen spinach, thawed1/2 cup sour cream1/2 teaspoon garlic salt (or to taste)1/4 teaspoon black pepper1 tablespoon dried onion flakes1/2 tablespoon lemon juice1/4 cup chopped fresh parsley1 tablespoon chopped fresh mint (optional)

Ingredients

DirectionsMix all ingredients together well and serve chilled.

(This is a good recipe to get kids to eat their veggies.)

Jesus said, Let the little children come to Me, and do not forbid them; for of such is the kingdom of God.

Mark 10:14

Our humanitarian outreach, Hunger Needs A Voice, is helping to fulfill this word of the Lord through our ongoing support

of Vie Abondante, a Christian school in Niamey, Niger. While construction of the main school building continues, classes for preschool and pre-Kindergarten age students are already taking place in a rented property, so that Niamey’s children can begin their education.

Many of the students are hearing the Gospel for the first time. Parents can’t stop talking about the positive changes they are seeing in their children as a result of their Christian classes, and as a result, families are asking to learn more about the Lord.

In October, the new school year will begin, with at least 80 children expected to enroll. Please join us in praying for God to bless the teachers and students.

To sow a seed to help us complete the school building that is under construction, go online to www.oralroberts.com and select “I’d like to give,” or call the Abundant Life Prayer Group at 918-495-7777. Y

If there ever was a tip from my mother-in-law, Evelyn Roberts, that speaks to the everydayness of life, and how we can make a major impact by doing little things every day, it’s the principle of making sure our children know Jesus loves them. And this applies to all of us! Jesus loves us no matter what we do. Our actions may not always be pleasing to the Lord, but I’m so glad to know that nothing can separate us from His abounding love.

—Lindsay

I have received letters from mothers asking me for scriptures on raising their children. One thing I can always tell them is this: Your children can receive no greater heritage from you than to be taught that Jesus loves them. And not only does He love them, but He:

• knows their every need,

• understands their every hurt,

• wants to heal their every wound, and

• has a solution to their every problem.

LovesI believe it is so important to teach

your children that God loves them personally.

It saddens me when I hear someone say to a child, “If you do that, Jesus won’t love you.”

Children need to know that Jesus loves them no matter what they do. While their actions may not always please the Lord, NOTHING can separate them from His love.

We learn this in Romans 8:35 where the apostle Paul asks the question, “Who shall separate us from the love of Christ?”

He gives the answer to that question in verses 38 and 39 by saying, “Neither death, nor life, nor angels, nor principalities, nor powers, nor things present, nor things to come, nor height, nor depth, nor any other creature, shall be able to separate us from the love of God, which is in Christ Jesus our Lord.” In other words, NOTHING can separate your children from God’s love!

We are God’s only family. He loves us, and He wants to be loved by us. He yearns and desires for us to talk to Him and spend quality time with Him.

God loves us so much that He made His love an act of giving. In fact, John 3:16 says, “God so loved the world, that He gave His only begotten Son, that whosoever believes in Him should not perish, but have everlasting life.”

Children know this when they have the Word of God planted in them. While your children are young, build

up a storehouse of Scriptures in their minds and spirits that they can draw on as they grow up. Even babies can absorb God’s Word into their spirits.

I encourage you to spend time with your children when they’re young and explain the Scriptures to them in simple words. God promises in Isaiah 55:11 that “His Word will not return to Him void.” Through God’s Word your children can see just how much He truly loves them! Y

A little boy answered, “My mommy says my prayers.”

“I see,” said the teacher. “And what does your mommy say?”

Replied the boy, “Thank God, he’s in bed!”
