    was awarded the Nobel Prize for Physiology or Medicine category for year 2012.

    In my two yearsat AmbangAsuhan Jepun(AAJ), IwasfortunatethatIlearned a lotfromthemanydedicatedJapaneseteachers

Their presence ensuredconstantcommunication inthe Japaneselanguagebetween studentsand teachers,despitedifficultieswhich arosedue todifferencesinlearningbackground. Takingadvantageoftheconducivelearningenvironment at AAJ,I constantly put ineffort

    toimprove myJapanese communicationskills.Thehard workpaid off, givingmeenoughconfidencewiththe languagetohelpmethroughmytimethere aswellasmylifeinJapanthat followed later.

    What challenges or difficulties did youface in Japan?

    The most difficult part faced by foreign

    students studying in Japan was the housingissue. The system in Japan is very different:

    we have to locate a suitable house on our own

    and landlords actually require a guarantorbefore being able to rent out their space.On top of that, we also have to pay for thekey money upfront. There are many houseowners / agents in Japan that are hesitant

    to rent out their homes to foreign studentssince most students do not have a fixedincome and survive purely on their scholarship

    allowance. Some foreign students wereoffered a place to stay in the dormitoriesprovided by the university, which was muchcheaper but not all students are able toenjoy that privilege.

    I lived in Japan with my family for 11 years

    from April 2002 to April 2012. Actually, I did

    not face any serious difficulties in Japan.

    Except for the process of obtaining a driving

    license. Even though I thought that I was

    quite an expert at driving, I had to take the

    driving test 6 times! At times, I just did not

    know why I failed the test. On a positive note,

    I believe that the difficulties made me more

    appreciative of my driving permit. I drivemore carefully so that I dont have to take

    another test in the future in case my license

    gets revoked by the authority for any reason.

    BeingtheonlyforeignerinmyclassalsohelpedmetounderstandJapanesecultureevenmoreandIgainedalotoffriendshipamongtheJapanesesociety.

    TheMBAexperienceinJapanwasextremelyenrichingandfulfilling.ThecourseswereconductedinEnglish,andtherewasagreatdiversityintheclassintermsofnationalityandcareerbackground.Oneha
