BASIS OF TRANSMISSION -
Job-To change speed ratio between Engine & Wheels of automobile
The transmission uses a range of gears -- from low to high
gears can be engaged manually or automatically.
INTRODUCTION:
A transmission that change through an infinite number of effective gear ratios between maximum and minimum valuesAutomatic transmission providing more useable powerCVT not constrained to a small number of gear ratios, such as the 4 to 6 forward ratiosDriving shaft Maintain constant angular velocity
TYPES:
Chain Driven CVT
Toroidal or Roller based CVT
Hydrostatic CVT
Cone CVTs
CHAIN DRIVEN CVT:
Deliver an abundance of power Reach speed of 10-15 mph without clutch or gearAllows the operator to slow or accelerate as needed to accommodate variations in thickness of the cropEg . Aircraft , motor scooters , snow mobiles ,tractors etc.
TOROIDAL CVT:
Made of Disc and roller transmitting power between discscan only work properly with the right oilrollers are electro-hydraulically actuated, but do not directly contact with the input/output discs
HYDROSTATIC CVT:
Power transmitted by hydraulic fluidTransmit more torqueExpensive but AdvantageousNot used for extended duration high Torque applicationEx. Lawn mover , garden tractor , heavy equipments etc.
CONE CVT:
Made of one or more conical bodiesFunction along their respective generatricestorque transmitted via friction from a variable number of cones to a central, barrel-shaped hubonly one contact point between each cone and the hub.
WORKING...
uses a pulley and belt system to provide to provide an unlimited range of gear ratiosTo facilitate different gear ratios, variation has to be made in the working diameters of the two main pulleys in the transmissionOne side fixed and one side is moveableMovement facilitated by a hydraulic cylinder which can change the space between the two sides of the pulleyWhen the pulley halves come closer to each other, the belt that runs between them goes higher on the pulley, which in turn increases the diameter of the pulley.Ratio is continuously being changed
USES OF CVT:
Harvesters , tractorsMotor scooters , Snow MobilesAircraft electrical power generating systemDrill presses , milling machinesDesigning area…
DISADVANTAGES:
Acceptance ProblemLimited Power HandlingSpecial Transmission FluidsLimited fuel economy benefitsGradual changes in engine note sound like a sliding transmission or a slipping clutch
BENEFITS OF CVT:
Smooth OperationBetter AccelerationBetter fuel EconomyTransmission ratio can be adjusted continuouslyEliminates gear hunting especially when going up a hill.Maximum efficiency
FUTURE OF CVT:CVT allow I.C Vehicles to meet the first wave of New Fuel regulation.
As CVT development continues , cost reduced further & performance continue to increase.
Cycle of improvement will ultimately give CVT a foundation in worlds automotive infrastructure.
