My Hero’s Journey

Call To AdventureThe family of red kangaroos realize they are in a desperate
situation. They live in western Australia near a rancher. They are constantly needing food. They mainly eat the
leaves of small shrubs, and grasses. This is becoming less available. Therefore, they have no option except to eat their farmers grass. When the farmer realizes this he attempts to shoot the family. My hero, the father of this family realizes this and knows that in order to save his family he must find
a new home. This is difficult because their habitats are becoming endangered. This is the call to adventure- when
the father realizes he must leave.
Heros/ Companions
Some companions that journey with my main hero are the mother and the little baby kangaroo. This is very
difficult, because the youngster has never experienced anything like this before. They also
meet two more kangaroos. However, they are tree kangaroos. They are much smaller but are a huge help. They have the ability to climb trees and have
keen hearing and eyesight that allows them to
somewhat see in the dark.
Crossing The Threshold
In my story, the red kangaroos are in the crossing the threshold stage approximately two days after their departure. The rancher that lived
near the kangaroos habitat realize they have left. This is great news for him, because his grass will no longer be eaten. He has been
trying to kill the family for years. The rancher therefore expands his farm into the habitat. If
the kangaroos were to return there would be no safe spot for them to live. The rancher would simply see them in the wide open and shoot
them once and for all.
TestsWhile the kangaroos are in search for their new home, they undergo several tests. For example, humans are always an
issue. They want to kill them not only because they are a nuisance to live with (especially at farms), but they kill them for their skins and meat which is becoming a more popular human food. This isn’t a main test, because red kangaroos can escape from dangers at a surprising 40 mph for short
bursts. However, one main tests in this story is the fact that they have dangerous predators such as eagles and dingos. Even though kangaroos can fight off some predators if they
are forced to, there is a young kangaroo in this family. It can be difficult to defend yourself from danger, especially
fighting off predators, if you are at a young age.
HelpersMy main hero in this story is the father of this red
kangaroo family. However, standing at his side the whole journey is his loyal family. The mother kangaroo is a huge help when it comes to raising the baby. Next, the two new tree kangaroos that
come in later in the story can be a huge help. They can use their keen eyesight and agility to help them through any escapes and finding the
perfect habitat.
ClimaxIn this hero’s journey, the climax is very action-packed. When the kangaroos see a habitat very close to them, they run into
some troubles. Three dingos cross the path of the kangaroo family. They are the
predators of red kangaroos. They unexpectedly attack the kangaroos. This is
not a major problem for the father. However, for the mother and child, it is
quite diffucult to escape these animals. The father must risk his life to save his family. The tree kangaroos they meet along the
way in attempt to save the child are killed.
Flight/ ReturnAt the end of the kangaroos search for a habitat, they
return to safety and a normal life once again. They find the perfect home for a family of red kangaroos- open savana region in Western Australia with lush grasses rich in water, open grassy plains, mallee scrub, plants, insects, fauna, short bushes, and
small thin trees. They even find about 10 more red kangaroos to add to their “mob”. They are in no danger. Everyone is pleased with the outcome-
apart from the death of their tree kangaroo friends.
BoonThe family of red kangaroos are blessed with a safe
habitat, a safe family, and even an addition to their mob. They may not receive a physical gift, but they receive the gift of serenity and a calm environment once again. Also, apart from this emotional gift, the father kangaroo has a story that he will be able to
pass down through generations. This has also provided an experience that no one in the family will ever forget. Even the child has acquired skills that he wouldn’t have had if it weren’t for her father and
his wise choices.
ApotheosisThe hero of this story is the father kangaroo. At the
end of this journey to find a new home where his family will be at peace, he does not literally turn
into a god. However, everything in his new home is calm and returns to normality. He is also
greatly respected, because he successfully got his family safely through this adventure.
