appealing and interesting, e.g. Hobby
Vidinė motyvacija = veikla daroma vardan jos pačios, veikla pati
savaime yra patraukli ir įdomi, pvz. hobis

Extrinsic motivation = carrying out an activity to obtain an
outcome that is separate from the activity itself.
=> applies to three types!

The fundamental distinction within SDT is that between autonomous or
wantivation and controlled motivation or mustivation.
This distinction applies to
-study behavior ~ learning content
-following rules ~ class management
Esminis dalykas SDT: autonomiškos (pasirinktos) ir kontroliuojamos (priverstinės)
motyvacijos atskyrimas
Šis atskyrimas tinka:
- mokymosi elgesiui – mokymosi turiniui
- taisyklių laikymuisi – klasės valdymui

SDT is not just a theory about student motivation, but also about
personality functioning, including the motivation & personality of
the teacher and student counselor.
Implication for practice: The teacher / professor / counselor can
stand in front of the mirror and question his/her own motivational
functioning.
Conclusion: Motivation of the teacher / student counsellorIšvada: Mokytojo motyvacija

How can teachers support learners’ psychological needs?
or
What can one do in daily practice? Kaip mokytojai gali patenkinti mokinių psichologinius poreikius?
Arba
Ką galime daryti kasdien?

The way tasks, instructions and guidelines are communicated is
critical to foster either voluntary cooperation in students or
oppositional defiance.
Implication for practice: Try to avoid words like ‘have to’, ‘expect’,
‘should’ and ‘disappoint’ in favor of words like ‘can’, ‘propose’,
‘could’, ‘ask’ and ‘suggest’.
Motivating Strategy 2: Try to be mindful of your language!2 Motyvuojanti strategija: Stenkitės įsisąmoninti, kaip kalbate
Copyright ©
‣ Try to clarify the meaning of the learning material by
a) linking it to daily news (e.g., newspaper, tv-program)
Example 1: “Here is an article from last week’s newspa, which is related to what
we are learning. Can you link the title of the article to the content of
today’s class?”
b) illustrating it with a personal anecdote
c) make it practically useful: encouraging experimentation
Motivating Strategy 3: Try to increase the relevance of
the learning material3 Motyvuojanti strategija: Stenkite parodyti medžiagos vertę
mokiniams

In many cases resistant children are not completely
unwilling to do the required activity; yet, they want to …
Motivating Strategy 4: Try to empathize with their perspective
and to roll with students’ resistance4 Motyvuojanti strategija: Stenkitės įsijausti į mokinių poziciją ir priimkite
jų pasipriešinimą

Examples
- Choice with respect to the content of the learning material
- Choice between different (homework) assignments
- Choice with respect to the theme of an essay
- Choice on tests/exams:
• Extra exam questions (not graded)
• Possibility to drop one question
Manifestation of choice
a) Positive choice = choosing a desired option
b) Negative choice = excluding an undesired option
Number of options: The optimal amount of options: 3 à 4, because it has to bemanageable
Motivating Strategy 5: Try to promote participation and dialogue5 Motyvuojanti strategija: Stenkitės skatinti įsitraukimą ir dialogą

‣ What?
a) Offer a challenge
