Renewable vs Non Renewable Resources Research each of the following energy resources. Briefly describe how we use the following resources and whether or not they are renewable or non-renewable sources of energy. 1) Solar Energy Energy from the Sun that can be used directly for heang, cooling, generang electricity, heang water, etc 2) Nuclear Energy Energy stored in the central part of an atom (the nucleus). It is obtained when one large atom breaks into two smaller atoms 3) Geothermal Energy Energy from the hot magma inside of the Earth used for generang electricity and heang and cooling buildings 4) Fossil Fuel Energy Energy from plants and animals that died millions of years ago. Coal, petroleum, and natural gas are example of fossil fuels. 5) Wind Energy Energy, captured from the uneven heang and cooling of the atmosphere, drives a turbine, which converts the energy of the moving air into electrical energy 6) Tidal Energy Energy produced from ocean des as a result of the gravitaonal pull of the Moon and Sun on the Earth 7) Gravitaonal Energy Energy that an object has when it is above the surface of the Earth. Any object that can drop, roll, or slide down has gravitaonal energy 8) Biomass Energy Use of organic maer-plants and animal maer-to produce electricity, transportaon fuels, or chemicals

Renewable vs Non Renewable ResourcesResearch each of the following energy resources. Briefly describe how we use the following resources and whether or not they are renewable or non-renewable sources of energy.

1) Solar EnergyEnergy from the Sun that can be used directly for heating, cooling, generating electricity, heating water, etc

2) Nuclear EnergyEnergy stored in the central part of an atom (the nucleus). It is obtained when one large atom breaks into two smaller atoms

3) Geothermal EnergyEnergy from the hot magma inside of the Earth used for generating electricity and heating and cooling buildings

4) Fossil Fuel EnergyEnergy from plants and animals that died millions of years ago. Coal, petroleum, and natural gas are example of fossil fuels.

5) Wind EnergyEnergy, captured from the uneven heating and cooling of the atmosphere, drives a turbine, which converts the energy of the moving air into electrical energy

6) Tidal EnergyEnergy produced from ocean tides as a result of the gravitational pull of the Moon and Sun on the Earth

7) Gravitational EnergyEnergy that an object has when it is above the surface of the Earth. Any object that can drop, roll, or slide down has gravitational energy

8) Biomass EnergyUse of organic matter-plants and animal matter-to produce electricity, transportation fuels, or chemicals

Renewable Energy Resources Create a brochure OR power point that is designed to “sell” a renewable energy resource.

Must include for full marks

1) Describe how it works in detail

2) What are the pros and cons of this source of renewable energy? Add one or two of your own questions as (i), (j) and (k)

a) Is it plentiful?b) Is it available all the time?c) Is it non-polluting?d) Is it easy to use?e) Is the technology that is needed to use this resources available?f) Is it safe for the environment?g) Can it be used to operate automobiles?h) Is it inexpensive to use?

3) Where on the planet do we see this type of renewable energy being used the most?Solar: desertsNuclear: First world countriesGeothermal: Where there are geysers-New Zealand, IcelandWind: Mountain top (Grouse Mountain), near the shoresTide: Near the sea shoreGravitational: Where there are heightsBiomass: Where there is food waste

4) What kinds of non-renewable resources could this replace?

5) Why is it important to make a move to more renewable sources of energy?
