Preludeoday is the rst o July, and Hong Kong is celebrating its 15 years o anniversary

having returned to China. I still remember that when we were still having our 5years o anniversary, St Pauls was invited to join a celebration activity o havingten thousands o students playing percussion together. With our great tradition o having student conductor leading all kinds o rehearsals, activities and competi-tion, we enjoyed so much in playing with all other schools, not to mention havingthe chances o being interviewed by R HK, or singing in the National Day,

SPC Artist in Residence ProgrammeOn the a ernoon o 22nd June, 2012, the Public Lecture Baroque Music is Fun! was held inthe St. Pauls College School Hall by the La Reunion Musicale.Te aim o this activity is to educate the students about the interesting side o Baroque Music.

Dr. Yu Ka-Wai who obtained his Doctor o Musical Arts degreerom the University o Illinois is one o the alumni o St. Pauls

College back in the 80s, he is now teaching Cello at Eastern IllinoisUniversity. He is now also one o the Music Advisors o the St. PaulsCollege Alumni Choir.

Te Public Lecture started o by giving the audience some back-ground in ormation o Baroque Music, the 3 un acts o it. Forexample, the Fun 2 Is about Baroque Music and Improvisation. Itmeans per ormers are o en expect to play more than what is writ-ten in the music. In order to show us how improvisation works,Dr. Sonia Lee per ormed the SONA A IX as an example.

Choir takes up a great part o memory (and my lunch time, a er school, morn-ing, recess......sadly) in my St Pauls li e. No one ever knows that these experiencesare so much use ul, directly or indirectly in our uture li e: the skills o handlingproblems with members, planning rehearsals, dealing with arguments, raising themorale o each other during the competition. All these can never be learnt else-where but once being in the choir o St Paul. Later on no matter I become a choirmember or conductor o local or overseas choir, or become a teacher and start tolead a group o students to Music Festival, I still remember what St Paul has taughtme and given to me. It is more than happy to know that this choral tradition isgoing to continue in all our lives through the establishment o St Pauls Alumni Choir.

One cross!, Minus one conduct mark!

In the past 30 years, i youre once a student in St. Pauls Collegeyou would certainly know where these coming rom and who Iam going to talk about!

Mr. Raymond Fu (1971), our music master, has became thecouncil o the World Choir Games, and the judge panel o the

coming competitions in Summer 2012.He is the second musicianever rom Hong Kong who has the honor to take such an importantrole in the largest choir competition in the world.

Te World Choir Games does not have hundred years o history nor thousands o sponsors, so why is it able to attract millions o singers rom all over the world ev-erytime? Even though it is a competition, World Choir Games is about singing andenjoying music rather than winning. Singing together brings nations together, the

motto o the WCG is truly refected as it gave a chance or amateur singers to meetother music lovers in other parts o the world. Guess what? St. Pauls College Chap-el Choir also took part in the 6th World Choir Games in 2010, and won the silvermedal o the Mixed Youth Choir with their amazing per ormance! So not only SPCstudents participated actively in WCG, but also Mr. Fu!

As an alumnus o St. Pauls College, knowing Mr. Fus success inthe World Choir Games makes me eel so proud o my identity! He is the only Hong Kong representative in the judge panel o theWorld Choir Games. Tis is de nitely a huge recognition or Mr.Fus music career, o his hard work and contributions to the mu-sic community in Hong Kong. Wishing Mr. Fu have a ruit ul andwonder ul trip.

Although St. Pauls College is not participating in the World Choir Games in thecoming summer, there is still a chance or us! WCG is only one o the many choircompetitions held by the assoication o IN ERKUL UR. In November 2012, achoir competition called Xinghai Prize International Choir Competition will beheld in Guangzhou. It is opened or any choirs in the world! SPC Alumni Choir,Are you ready?
