URGENT MISSION!

The 49th Test and Evaluation Squadron at Barksdale Air Force Base has been

assigned a top secret mission. They have been asked to test a highly experimental new weapon – the Musical Missile. This missile uses the power of music to make all of our enemies dance. And everyone knows that you can’t be angry and fight when you are dancing – you are having

too much fun!

URGENT MISSION!

Your mission is to figure out how to load the bombs onto the plane so the weight is evenly distributed for the flight. Each

musical missile is labeled with musical notes. You must figure out the weight of each missile by completing the musical math problem, and then decide which

missile will even out the plane’s weight so it can fly properly. Study the note values on

the next slide.

Work through this problem with me.

Calculate the weight of this missile by completing the equation in

parenthesis FIRST.

Whole notes = 4 and half notes = 2. So…..

4 x 2 = 8

Choose the musical missile that has the same weight (note value) as the one on the bomber by completing the musical math equation. Remember to

complete the equation in the parenthesis ( ) first!!!

Now finish the equation.

or

(4 x 2) + 1 = ?

or

8 + 1 = 9

The musical weight of this missile is 9. The missile you

choose for the other wing must equal 9.
