MUSIC VIDEO DISCUSSION GROUP

I held a ‘discussion group’ with some members of my target audience to find out what they personally like about music videos, and why they watch them. The

point in this exercise was for me to be able to gather a target audience insight into what they want to see in

music videos so that I can ensure when I create my own music video it would be watched and enjoyed by

members of my target audience.

I held my discussion group with two members of my target audience. My target audience is mainly made up of female

teenagers and young adults who are fans of Alternative Rock.

After having the discussion with members of my target audience I found out some of the main reasons why they each personally watch music

videos. One of the main reasons was to see the artist performing. This has made me aware that I need to definitely include some performance

elements in my music video. Another reason was because it makes listening to the song more exciting. We discussed music videos with

narratives and each member of the discussion group said that they really enjoyed videos with a story, and that they are much more exciting when the narratives include the band members. The information I learnt has

solidified my choice to include both narrative and performance parts in my music video. I have learnt that I should make the narrative interesting and include the artist in it as well. Completing a discussion group and getting a

target audience insight has been very valuable to me.
