Comment on the following aspects in relation to your music video choice. How will these techniques appeal to the target audience needs? Chase And Status Ft Jacob Banks- Alive

Target Audience & needs I think the target audience for the music video is more aimed at matured middle aged teenagers, 14+ to be specific. Due to the fact

that there is a lot of drugs and violence taking place during the video this age I reckon is most suitable for the music video. Also the song is fast tempo and load beats which I think elderly people wouldn’t respect and enjoy as much as the younger generation.

LyricsThe lyrics used in the song are to symbolise that the boy is in love with the girl and that he taken up by drug dealers and uses violence and drugs to impress or help this girl. The main lyric and title (Alive) I think mean that he feels alive by repaying of his debt of doing all the bad things in his life. This is shown towards the end of the video. The chorus says a lot which is relevant to the video “ as the rain keeps pouring down on me, and the sky is the only thing I see, All my troubles are gone with the wind” I think this suggests that he has done a lot of bad things in his life which he regrets, he also lost the one he loves in the process, so I think the lyrics talk about how he is alone and by repaying off all the bad things he’s done his problems/ troubles are relieved off him.

TempoThe tempo starts with a quiet slow piano tune whilst the vocals join around 10 seconds into the music, it continues just being the piano and vocals during the first verse and as it approaches the chorus the tempo/ beat kick up and becomes loader and faster. ItDoes this each time during each chorus with a slow break in the middle of the song similar to the start of the song.

GenreThis song could come under a few genres, mainly I think it suits drum And Bass as Drum and bass is the main instrument in the song, plus most of chase and status music is drum and bass and with the same tempo and beats as this song it suits perfectly. Chase and status have played rock festivals e.g. Download festival so in different peoples perspective the song is widely considered a rock genre of music.

Music Video Analysis

Camera TechniqueThere are many different types of used used during the whole music video, they use slow panning shots, close up shots, over shoulder shots which I noticed was used frequently throughout the video. They used close up shots of his face which works well to introduce the main characters to make it more understandable during the video. Also they used a lot of camera work on a helicopter dolly which can fly high up to film all surroundings, this works well I think because you can focus on the atmosphere and surroundings of this person’s lifestyle.

EditingDuring the video they used a lot of editing like quick clips cut together and shots which have been filmed from differs=ent angles e.g. from the front, above and behind the scene put together in the right order to show the whole surroundings and the point of view of the main characters and scenes.

Use of digital effectsI couldn’t see many digital effects used during the video as I think they kept it as natural and real lifestyle as possible. Although I reckon they might have used digital effects to boost up the lighting and maybe the sounds in the background or even the voice of the character so it’s not hard to hear what they are saying during the video.
