SCHOOL FETE/OKTOBERFEST THIS SATURDAY Don’t forget to tell your friends about our Fete/Oktoberfest from 4.30pm this Saturday. We have great food, fun and entertainment planned. Discount ride tickets are available from the school office tomorrow. Ride tickets can also be purchased at the fete. Parents of students in years 4 and 6 are reminded that donations for our cake and slice stall are to be packaged ready for selling and the school will do the pricing. Donations are also invited for the cent sale table and pre-loved book and toy stall. Students can bring donations tomorrow or on the day and hand them to the teacher. LIFE EDUCATION The Life Education van, presenter and Harold will visit our primary school next week, 26th to 29th October. P & C will fund a session attendance for all classes from Prep to year 6. The State Government will fund a second session for Year 6 students. There will be a parent information session from 8.30am to 9am on Tuesday 27th. Harold products can also be ordered with orders and payment due by 29th October. Ordered products will be received at a later date.
AUSTRALIAN SCHOOLS ACADEMIC COMPETITIONS Congratulations to Kiana Watt who achieved a High Distinction in the English competition, being acknowledged in the top 1% of participants across Australia. Well done too, to Clovis Damay who achieved a credit for his extremely good results.
HOOF ‘N’ HOOK CATTLE ON SHOW Ag program sponsors visited the school on Tuesday to view the cattle before participation in the Hoof ‘n’ Hook competition. Their support is greatly appreciated, enabling our students to undertake this very popular and interesting field of study. Students and cattle are now in Maryborough for the final stage of this unit of study. They have achieved 3rd place on hoof with Romeo, the beast donated by Rod and Charmaine Sharp, and 6th place with CC, our own bred steer. More results are yet to arrive. SECONDARY MATHS TUTORING Tutoring will resume next Monday. PRIMARY SWIMMING TIMETABLE Primary swimming lessons will commence on Tuesday 17th November. FETE All secondary students are asked to assist with the running of a stall at the Fete. To facilitate this, students are asked to nominate a time that they are able to assist, usually a half hour slot. Students must see the teacher-in-charge of their stall to arrange a time. Parents are also welcome to help.
CONGRATULATIONS TO SOPHIE Sophie Zipf attended the State Athletics competition in Townsville last week and was pleased to achieve her personal best 800m run, shaving 2 seconds off her previous time. Sophie ran 16th in this state race ...very speedy. During Sophie’s return trip she was quite excited to meet our team of Volleyball girls. The Mundubbera Raptors were on their trip to compete in the State Volleyball competition.
COLOURFUL REJECTS NEEDED Donations of unwanted, possibly cracked plates are requested for the Art room. Students will break these up for use in artistic mosaic creations. Donations may be sent to the school office.
SPORTS PRIZES AT AWARDS NIGHT A list of secondary sports representatives has been included in this newsletter. The purpose of this inclusion is to ensure accuracy for speech night. It is important to note that Medallions are awarded to students based on their selection in District, Regional or State Teams. It does not include representation through clubs or participation at non – QSSSA Carnivals. Please see Mr Brady if you would like to clarify anything.

COACHING COURSE—Coaching Juniors, The Waves Sports Club Bundaberg Saturday 7 November 2015 9:00am–12:00pm Who will be the next Tiger Woods, Michael Jordan or Venus Williams? There is a certain mystique about talented athletes, and we recognise it is not an easy path to elite success with few achieving their dream. However, the role you play as a coach for all athletes, particularly young athletes, will not only contribute to their overall development but more importantly their desire to maintain an active, healthy lifestyle throughout life. The goals should be to encourage healthy activity for inactive kids, teach life skills, develop a long- term enjoyment of sport and give naturally gifted athletes the tools that will help them perform at an elite level. Kids who are streamlined into a single sport early in life are robbed of more varied experiences critical to developing overall athleticism. A lower athletic base ultimately limits their sport-specific improvement potential and can lead to burnout. The focus should be on helping young athletes develop skills they will draw on at an older age when they are actually ready to capitalise on sport specialisation. This workshop will explore all the challenges today’s coach faces when working with young athletes. Presenter : Chris Weier, Fitnance Cost: All workshops are free - bookings are essential http://www.nprsr.qld.gov.au/news-events/events/?id=1333
