Weather forecasters keep taunting us with the promise of warm, sunny weather five days down the road. Hopefully they are correct this time, as there are several farmers in the area that have yet to complete harvest.

Thank you to the many parents and students that attended our Open House evening on Oct. 18. Visitors were treated to a Scavenger Hunt, student work and art displays, and some delicious samplings of foods created by our very own Home Ec. classes under the guid-ance of Mrs. Gray.

Soccer has now ended for our Senior teams. We congratulate both the Boys and Girls teams that had strong performances at their respective Pro-vincial tournaments, and Congratulations to the Girls team for bringing home a Silver Medal. You have represented Muenster School with pride great sportsmanship. Good luck to all our Jr. and Sr. Volleyball teams as they battle in the upcoming weeks.

ing club members along with a CurlSask member. Instruction begins at 9:00

Grade 5 & 6 News

The grade 5/6 class is busy baking in the home economics room this month. We have made

cookies, muffins and cupcakes for a bake sale to be held in November. The money we raise

from this sale will be used to buy various items to pack into Operation Christmas Child box-

es to send overseas. We would like to thank Mrs. Hogemann, Mrs. Klettberg, Mrs. Korte, and

Mrs. Ilg who volunteered their time to help us in the kitchen. We are also learning how to

write postcards to send to veterans in the Postcards for Peace campaign. Our guided read-

ing groups are beginning in November and we are pretty excited to begin Christmas Con-

cert ideas. We are hoping to find something to make the crowd laugh this year.

SADD

The annual SADD conference was held in Regina on October 22-23. We had eleven delegates attend. It was a

good opportunity to find out what other chapters were doing, to receive positive feedback about student involvement

from various government dignitaries and to hear stories from people who have been a victim of alcohol related colli-

sions. Student response to the conference:

It was an amazing weekend. We learned so much and heard great speakers. We got great ideas for activities our school could try. We made new friends and bonded with our own group – Alissa, Lizzy and Brianna

It was amazing. The dance was fun! – Danica and Kaylee

It was lots of fun and I loved the speeches. They were very heartwarming. I enjoyed the conference a lot. – Abbie

It was fun meeting new people and getting new ideas. The speakers were good and shared some strong messages. – Alex

It was fun to meet new people and hear all the stories about how impaired driving affected lives. The dance was fun. – Zade

I like the speakers. They were very inspirational. I was touched by the story each speaker shared. – Kelsey P.

I had a fun last conference. The speakers were really good. Being able to hang out with friends was lots of fun. Sad this is my last year. – Payge

Before going out --- plan for a safe ride home and stick to the plan. If your safe ride plan falls apart –

choose a ride from someone who is not at the party. Even one drink impairs judgement – not only of the

driver but also of those who are accepting a ride.

Kindergarten News

The Kids of K enjoyed their first Halloween at school! We had Buzz Lightyear, an

elephant, a mermaid, and Wonder Woman in our classroom this year. Every-

one looked great and had a lot of fun.

We started working on a “letter of the week” this month… get ready for some

new songs at home!

The students are getting excited for the big Book Fair coming up in a few more

weeks, and I am excited to see parents at our upcoming Parent Teacher Inter-

views on November 16.

Senior Boys Soccer

The Senior Boys’ Soccer Season is now complete. On October 22, we hosted the Regional C Championships to determine who would qualify for the Pro-vincial Championships. We played Valley Christian Academy from Osler in the semi-final. After falling to an early 2-0 deficit the boys rallied and defeated VCA 3-2. This win qualified the team for the Provincial Championships in Middle Lake which were held on October 28-29. We lost our first game to the team that eventually won provincials, Cando, by a score of 3-1. After that we played Herbert where the boys played very well and came out with a decisive win. Our final game was against Constable Robin Cameron School. It was a hard fought game, but Constable Robin Cameron came out with the win. This resulted in a sixth place finish at provincials.

Senior Girls Soccer

The Sr. Girls Soccer team had a very successful season. The

Team ended up in first place in the league with a 5-1 record.

We then lost in the League Final to Humboldt in a shootout.

Regional playoffs were held in Caronport, in the first game we

defeated Moosimin 6-0, this win advanced us to the final where

we once again would play Humboldt, it was the same result as

the league final, a loss in a shootout. The good news was we

still advanced to Provincials in North Battleford. In the first

game the Girls defeated Rosthern Junior College 4-1, and then

defeated Lloydminster in a shootout to advance to the final.

The

Provincial Final was an excellent game however the Girls were

defeated once again by Humboldt, 2-1. Congratulations on a

Silver Medal! Thank you and goodbye to

our 3 Graduating players Courtlyn

Rueve, Allison Behiel, Katelyn Behiel,

your leadership was outstanding this

year.

ber 1 in Muenster. It was very exciting volleyball to watch with some great blocks, digs and

smashes. The Junior Boys advanced to Districts in Bellevue on November 7. Good Luck Boys.

Provincial Volleyball Hosts, Volunteers Needed Our school has been awarded the 2016 2A Senior Girls’ Volleyball Provincial Championships. The championship will take place on November 18th and 19th . It is a 10 team championship, with competition taking place in two gyms. We will be using the gym at the college as well as the one at the school. As a result of the size of this tournament we are in need of volunteers. We are in need of booth workers, gate collectors, lines people and scorekeepers. If you would like to volunteer your time please contact Mr. Taphorn either by email [email protected] or by phone 306 682 4538. Thanks. Mr. Taphorn

School Curling Teams

The competitive curling season will be underway very soon! Our curling teams do not have a school league

to play in, so all teams are required to play in a separate league. Mrs. Lacoursiere and I appreciate your

commitment to making this work! This year, our 2 Junior Boys’ teams will be taking part in the Humboldt

Junior League once again. The league runs on Tuesdays from 4:00pm until 5:30pm. The first game is Tues-

day, November 15th. Schedules and notes about drivers will be coming home soon. This year, we are excit-

ed to have 10 boys from Grades 7-9 who are curling on our teams! Our Senior Girls team will be playing in

the Muenster Ladies League on Tuesday evenings. Good luck girls! If any other students are interested in

curling on the school teams or forming a team, please let Mrs. Clark or Mrs. Lacoursiere know immediately

as the deadline to enter leagues will pass us by very soon!

November Book Fair

The Scholastic Book Fair is coming to our school this month and we are very excited to of-

fer this literary event to our students! We invite your entire family to stop in and visit our

Book Fair. We have a wide selection of books and reading material to offer both young

and older readers.

Books also make great gifts and stocking stuffers, so get your Christmas shopping done

early! By encouraging reading, you open up your child to a world of opportunities. Your

support of this event also enables our school to purchase new resources for our library!

Please watch for the Book Fair Flyer your child will be bringing home. Have your child cut

out the entry form on the back of the flyer and enter it in the draw box when they attend

the Book Fair. This is their chance to win books for themselves and also for the school.

No purchase is necessary to enter this draw.

We look forward to seeing you during the Muenster School Book Fair and thank you in ad-

vance for supporting this very important fundraiser.

From the desk of the SRC…

Our SRC is a hard working group of dedicated students who take on various, student leadership roles in our school.

As an advisor, I stand back and watch as the SRC spend many hours behind the scenes juggling their activities, cre-

ating intramural schedules, posters, spirit teams and pep rallies, running sound systems, counting change, planning

future events and working collaboratively with the staff and other students around them. Up front, I see SRC stu-

dents rally enthusiasm with the students in the school to help create spirit making Muenster school a safe, caring,

fun and exciting place to come each day. I also know as an old SRC student member from long, long, long time ago

that being a leader puts you front and center for praise and sometimes the “‘why did you do it that way” comment.

Part of being a leader is learning to make decisions, managing time, learning how to work with people, not always

getting everything right all the time, but growing through the process and in turn getting better and better. Please

make sure we thank them for all their dedicated efforts.

This year’s SRC Presidents: Jordan Breker and Courtlyn Rueve; Treasurer- Steven Anderson; Secretary-

Alison Behiel; Spirit Coordinator- Kelsey Berscheid; co –spirit coordinator and grade 12 room rep- Katelyn

Behiel; Other room reps include grade 7- Paige Wuchner, Jacob Newberry; grade 8, Noah Layboldt, Kaylee

Hofmann; grade nine Alex Hinz, Abbie Korte; Grade 10- Carson Sogge; grade 11 Mackenzie Taphorn, Kelsey

Pratchler

I am also very fortunate to have Nancy Jefferson working with me this year on as a co-advisor. With her many years

of experience I am grateful for all her advice.

And now…

The Muenster SRC were off to a busy start again these past two months. Sept 10, kicked off the magazine sales

fundraiser. We had a successful campaign with the proposal from the SRC that a large portion of all profits attained

be put toward the “Gym Entrance Improvement”. With the trees and shrubs removed it will be nice to have some

benches, large flower pots and signs for the school. Thank-you to everyone who has supported the magazine cam-

paign.

On Sept 21, 22, 23, six students (Steven Anderson, Courtlyn Rueve, Alison Behiel, Katelyn Behiel, Kelsey Ber-

scheid and Jordan Breker) from Muenster school attended the annual SSLC (Saskatchewan Student Leadership

Conference) in Maple Creek. It was a long bus ride but worth it. I personally have never been to Maple Creek or

Cypress Hills so it was great to be one of the 132 staff advisors that went this year. In total, 110 towns and cities

took part. The theme was country and the old west. Despite the continuous rain, the students were able to take part

in many events and listen to various dynamic guest speakers.

Terry Fox was very successful again this year. It was great again to see members of the community walk with us.

We were very lucky to have had our walk done before the big snowfall of October 2016. We were able to raise

$214.00 for the Terry Fox Foundation. Thank-you to our students, parents and members of the community for

supporting this very worthy cause.

Volley ball intramurals at noon are going strong.

Presently, we are having Spirit Week activities beginning with Halloween costumes Monday afternoon, Sweats, Ne-

on Day, Twin Day, and PJ Day. The students are having fun. Even though it is a lot of

work to get everything organized at home when you see the smiling excited faces of

the kids it s really worth it.
