Principal’s Message
Last month our SCC held the Annual General Meeting on Feb. 9. I thank Lyle Wuchner for his many years of service as Chair of Muenster SCC. Lyle has stepped down as he has completed at least 2 full terms in this position. At the same time we welcome Jan Sylvestre as the newly elected SCC Chair, as well as Corri Binsfeld as a newly elected SCC member. I look forward to continuing the work we do in pursuing school and learning improvement.
A huge thank you goes out to our Home and School Committee for or-ganizing and working the annual Carnival. This year the group also cooked hotdogs (thank you Randy Schuler!) for us. And as always, thank you for continuing to provide our staff and students with hot lunch opportunities.
A reminder to all parents that K-6 Report Cards go home on March 17. Also on March 17 the Gr. 7-12 students will be geared up in their team colours for Gym Blast – an obnoxious afternoon of fun and mayhem that the students look forward to every year.
Parents of students in Gr. 5-9 can expect to see a permission letter com-ing home soon (if you don’t have it already) for the upcoming Ski Trip on March 24. Also, the Gr. 7/8 class will be travelling to Saskatoon to attend We Day on March 15.
Horizon School Division has implemented several procedures in the event of fire or other emergencies. Please see the letter included in the newsletter for emergency plans.
As warmer weather approaches, we remind parents of our younger stu-dents to send a set of clothes that they keep at the school through our soggy melting period. Sometimes the little ones don’t even try to stay dry!

GRADE 3 & 4 CLASS NEWS
In the classroom this month…
We will be working on silly Leprechaun Limericks to get into the St. Patrick’s Day spir-
it! We will be concentrating on dictionary skills and moving into our guided reading
groups once again. In the gym, the students will be putting together small gymnastics
routines to wrap up our unit. Then we will be dusting off the badminton rackets as we
move into a badminton unit. Both grades are focusing on Measurement in math
class. We are busy building bridges in our Structures and Materials unit in Science. And
we are so excited about our plays that we have been preparing during our drama unit
with Mrs. Major! Have a happy March!
On Feb. 13th, we celebrated the 100th day of the school year. One of the day’s activities was to think about one hun-dred and share your thoughts. Some of the responses were:

The senior curling teams have finished off their season over the past couple of weeks. At Pre-Districts in
Foam Lake, the boys battled to claim a spot at Districts through the B side. The girls played well but un-
fortunately came up short against tough teams from Wadena and Foam Lake. At Districts, the boys started
their weekend off with a loss, and then proceeded to rattle off 5 straight wins to claim the District gold
medal and pennant. This past weekend, they travelled to Prince Albert for Regional playoffs. Once again,
they found themselves in the B final where a win would guarantee them a spot at the Provincial Champion-
ship. It was not to be, however, as they were not able to defeat the tough team from Carrot River. Con-
gratulations on a successful season, boys!
Our Junior curlers began their school playoffs last week in Humboldt. Both teams played very well and
found themselves in the B final against each other. On their 5th game of the day, the grade 7/8 boys kept
it as close as they could, but the Grade 9 boys eventually came out on top to
claim the final spot in the District competition in Ituna on March 8th. The future
of boys’ curling in Muenster School is very bright! Good luck to our Grade 9
team and their coach, Mrs. Lacoursiere, at Districts this week.
CURLING NEWS
What an exciting month it’s been in the grade one classroom! On February 13th
we celebrated the 100
th day of school. You may not have recognized us, though, as
we all dressed up as 100-year old ladies and gentlemen! What a great looking crew we were! We also brought collections of 100 objects. We had everything from 50/50 ticket stubs to pennies to play food. Great job on some very creative collections! We were amazed at how many things we had learned in only 100 days of school! We know how to count to 100 and group objects into 10’s, 20’sand 25’s for easier counting.
We are learning about where we live in the world and the many families and communities we belong to. We are all reading really well and are continuing to climb in our reading levels! The students have been very excited to accumulate reward stars in Reading A-Z to go towards build-ing their reading robots. We continue to enjoy writing and sharing the books we have written and illustrated during “Author Sharing”. We are all hoping for an early return of Spring in March!
GRADE 1 CLASS NEWS
Thanks to everyone who supported “Bowl-For-Kid’s-Sake” and pledged our class to bowl. The grade 3/4 and 5/6 classes together collected $2400.00 in pledges to donate to this great charity. Many kids went knocking door to door and collected some huge amounts. Big Brothers and Big Sisters was able to give away an I-pad to the top youth pledge collector. The I-pad was generously donated by Kevin Grieman of This is Your Computer. Nathan Carroll was the top collector with $348.00 and picked up his free I-pad last week. Congratulations Nathan!!
With hockey coming to an end, the kids have been talking about ball, if only the weather would cooperate. We have begun studying science this semester and the kids have been very interested in all the different classifications of animals. They will be creating their own species as a final project for this unit. Reading groups are going strong and the students have read some really interesting books that they discuss with each other and their teacher. They are real-ly getting so much better at asking questions, visualizing, making predictions, making connec-tions, and sequencing.

HRN BAND NEWS
FROM THE DESK OF THE SRC
Many things have happened since our last report.
December was full of exciting events packed into about 14 days of school. The SRC ran the door-decorating contest prior to Christmas. The grade 12 class won and was rewarded with an ice cream cake. The Christmas food drive was very successful with contributed food items going to the Hum-boldt food bank. The SRC added Bingo games with prizes of delicious baking items to the senior’s lunch at the beginning of December. New items have been added to the vending machine in our school. Several types of mineral water, Cranberry Juice and Five Alive are available in addition to or-ange, apple juice and regular water.
We have just wrapped up a busy February with spirit days filled with hearts, red, pink, formal, jersey and spirit color days. My personal favorite is PJ day especially on a Monday morning. The annual Valentine lunch was a big hit as usual with girls making lunches for the boys this year.
With our fundraising efforts this year, the SRC has decided to contribute to paying for the Muenster Logo sign that will adorn the front of the school. Details about the size are still being finalized but the goal is to have it completed by the end of the year.
March 17, is GYM blast. Please look at the Muenster March calendar for details about other upcoming events.
