MTP Cabling System 1
AFC MTP® Low Loss Cabling System
AFC’s MTP pre-terminated cables and cassettes offer a market leading
low loss, fast and efficient connection system particularly suited to the
Data Centre (DC) and Storage Area Network (SAN) environment.
The modular MTP product set comprises cable assemblies, cassettes,
heavy duty fanouts and various 1RU, 1.5RU, 2RU and 3RU enclosure
options. The solution is ideal for both new and fully populated
communication racks.
US Conec MTP Technology Partnership
To bring the highest quality multi-fibre pre-terminated system to our
customers, AFC has partnered with US Conec (Hickory NC USA) to
guarantee only ‘best in class’ MTP connectors are used.
AFC only uses US Conec MTP Elite connectors due to their low loss and
enhanced performance over standard MPO connectors.
The AFC and US Conec partnership ensures that the latest in next
generation multi-fibre solutions are available and fully supported.

Cabling Overview
MTP cabling architectures utilise varying cable and patchcord configurations
as defined in TIA-568-C.0-2. These cables vary by gender, fibre orientation and
pair management.
AFC manufactures a large and varied range of MTP cable assemblies to suit:
• 10Gig backbone and extension cables
• 40/100Gig backbone and patchcord cables
• 10Gig/Fibre Channel MTP to LC hybrid cables
• 40Gig MTP to 10Gig LC patchcords
Fibre types
• 12 or 24F laser optimised bend tolerant multimode 50/125µm OM4 and OM3
• 12 or 24F bend insensitive 9/125µm singlemode OS2
All AFC MTP assemblies are made to TIA and ISO/IEC specifications.
The low 10/40/100Gig channel loss requirements of ISO/IEC 11801 demand
high performance connectivity is used. AFC only use the US Conec MTP Elite
connector to ensure the lowest possible connector insertion losses.
Numerous cable options are available with the most popular being the 3mm
round mini cable. Other options include ruggedised round mini, metallic
armoured round mini, coloured sheaths and different sheath types.
Features and Benefits
• MTP Elite connectors for low link/channel loss performance
• TIA-568-C.0-2 based parallel optics cables for standards compliance and traceability
• Round mini cable construction offers reduced raceway usage and looming neatness
• MTP connectors supplied with push/pull tabs for ease of handling
• MTP connector endface geometry compliance to IEC standards for enhanced intermateability and interoperability
• Large range of cable colours for circuit ID options
• Bundled cable option allows for ease of handling and installation of multiple 12/24F cables
