MSUan is bursting in definition, and to put it simply, it is a journey that many have began

longtime ago, and many more are following. MSUism is an MSUans way of life. MSUism

is reflected in an MSUans spirits, abilities and skills in adapting to new situations and to

make changes benefitting others. An MSUan is trained to put in the best effort no matter

what the circumstances are for an MSUans basic experiential thought patterns are

founded on how to make things better for oneself, focusing on the positive aspect of life.

It is no surprise that MSUans have the heartiest laugh, for back in the days when there

was too much struggle, not enough to eat, and yet, had to survive the academic rigors,

an MSUan found solace that life had to be enjoyed regardless. MSUan has spiced up his/

her life and that of others Blah blah blah

MSUan has distinguished oneself wherever and whenever. In a way, an MSUan spices up

ones life and the lives of others. The MSUan journey began overlooking the beautiful

shores of Lake Lanao in the City of Marawi, where Cogon grasses ang nagrawi-rawi with

the wind as one should blah blah blah. And, for this years reunion, the MSUan found

oneself in another City with a Lake, Lake Michigan.

Chicago is pronounced in multiple ways depending on the ethnic background of a per-

son. But the word has a Native American origin. The Chicago area was inhabited by a

number of Algonquian peoples, including the Mascouten and Miami. They were con-

nected through trade and seasonal hunting migrations to their neighbors, the Potawa-

tomi to the east, Fox to the north, and the Illinois to the southwest. The name "Chicago"

is the French version of the Miami-Illinois word shikaakwa ("Stinky Onion"), named for the

plants common along the Chicago River. One may laugh about stinky onion, but it is a big

money making business throughout the world and that is no laughing matter. Most im-

portantly, could you imagine stirfry without onio blah blah blah.

    Silahis

    Mindanao State University Hymn

    Silahis

    Silahis ang katulad mong

    Nagsabog ng liwanag,

    Ng pag-asa't hangarin

    Ng pag-unlad

    Ang pook ng MindanaoTinanglaw't pinalad,

    Nang ikaw'y isilang

    Na dakila ang hangad.

    Ating ipagkapuri

    Itong pamantasan

Ang buhay at pag-ibig,Sa kanya'y iaalay

    Saan man naroon ay

    Bigyang karangalan,

    Dakilang paaralan

Singing MSU Hymn With Your Life By Leo Flores

I was in elementary grade when I first heard the MSU Hymn. As young kids, me and my 2

younger brothers and sister would sing songs as we hear them from other kids either at school or in

the playground. The MSU Hymn was no exception. We were going Silahis ang katutad mong nag

sabog ng granada. My dad who was nearby told us to line up and individually sing the Hymn. We

all sang it the way we have picked it up from all the kids at school. My dad taught us the real version

and were instructed to sing it that way. I did not understand why he was so ticked off and was not sohappy with all the memorizing and all the practices that we had to go through. But soon after, me and

my siblings found ourselves teaching our classmates the way it ought to be sung... the correct way.

I didn't really understand why this song was like the National Anthem that everybody had to

stand up while it was being played or sang. Truth be told, almost all of us made fun of the song and I

am sure that many left the university without knowing the song. The first time you might have seri-

ously sang it was on graduation day since the words are always printed in the program. It's only by

that way that many get to know the real lyrics.

The significance of the Hymn remained an enigma to me until I worked in another university

and saw everybody wearing school color when their team was playing at home. When I was watching

a basketball game, the team would huddle and face the home crowd and they would sing the school

hymn proudly with much gusto and with so much pride especially after a win. I then realized that thereare various ways to express how proud we are to be a part of the school and you do not need to think

hard how to do it. It has already been written for you and all have to do is to believe in it. Feeling and

believing in the University Hymn becomes much easier when you come to think of what MSU has

done for you. The best rendition of MSU hymn that I have heard was in the Alumni Homecoming here

in Houston with all of us realizing that we are what we are now because of what MSU has given us

and what it has made of us.

Every now and then, I still hear somebody asking my dad about the MSU hymn and I pick up

new information. This much I know that the music was written by Prof. Lucio San Pedro, a professor

at the Conservatory of Music in U.P. I asked my dad for more details and he told me that then Presi-

dent Isidro asked the English department to write the MSU hymn but nobody dared to do it. After a

couple of weeks my dad heard of the request and volunteered to write it. Often, there would be talksabout all the geniuses that MSU had produced. MSU, we all know wasn't also short of poets. It took

a 24 year old P.E. teacher lot of guts to do it. It surely was a good way of making a name for one's self

and I am sure it didn't occur to him then the prestige and honor that would come with it. Sitting by the

golf course, overlooking beautiful Lake Lanao, was all the inspiration he needed to complete the lyrics

to the song. In his own words, I had nothing prepared yet for the Lyrics when I approached Dr. Isidro

so I went to the Golf course and sat on the grass one gloomy morning and suddenly I saw a ray of the

sun penetrating through a thick cloud which became the first line of the Lyrics 'The ray of the sun'. In

little over a week I completed the poem. But I had to check up the meter where I spent more time

counting the syllables. I had to review everything. Prof. Lucio San Pedro used only the first and last

    stanza.

It doesn't come as a surprise to me why one of my dad's wishes was to be able to conduct theMSU Hymn himself with the MSU band. I am glad that he was given that privilege before he retired

from MSU. He deserved it because remember he wrote this song when all of you said that MSU was

all mud and kacogonan and we were not even sure if MSU would have its first graduates. The coolest

thing was that he believed in the vision and was given the opportunity to act on his dream and then be

part of making it a reality. My dad wanted us to catch the vision and the dream of Mindanao State Uni-

versity and would like us to believe enough to be a part of giving the same opportunity that you had to

generations that are yet to come.

The purpose of a catalog is to sell

products or services to a targeted

    audience, or to advertise upcoming

classes or events. Catalogs can be

a great way to market your prod-

ucts or services, and also build

    your organizations identity.

    Secondary Heading

First, determine the audience of the catalog. This could be anyone who might

benefit from the products or services it contains. Next, establish how much

time and money you can spend on your catalog. These factors will help deter-

mine the length of the catalog and how frequently you publish it. Its recom-

mended that you publish your catalog at least quarterly so that its considered

a consistent source of information. Your customers or employees will look

    forward to its arrival.

Also consider how you want to print your catalog. You can print it on a desk-

top printer, at a copy shop, or at a commercial printing service. In addition to

your budget, the complexity of the publicationincluding whether you print it

as a black and white or a color publicationwill help determine the best

    method for printing your publication.

Before you print your catalog, consider how you will bind your pages. The

number of pages, how the reader will use it, and whether you mail it will help

you determine the type of binding. For example, if you have only a few pages

and your catalog is meant to be held, you might consider folding the pages

and stapling the spine. Larger catalogs that are meant to be folded flat work

best with a plastic binding with punched holes, while larger publications

meant to be held like a book are best served by gluing the pages, or perfect

    binding.

meant to be held like a book are best served by gluing the pages, or perfect
