MSI TrU: FIRST WORKSHOP FOR NOSS DEVELOPMENT ON STEELMAKING MSI conducted the First Workshop for NOSS Development on Steelmaking covering Levels 2-3 and Levels 4-5 with the industries at Eastin Hotel, PJ from
14-16 July 2017. This workshop saw participation of experts from namely: Amsteel, Ann Joo, Eastern Steel, EnviSafe Training & Consultant, Masteel,
Megasteel and Southern Steel. As background information, for the Iron & Steel sector, MSI has been re-appointed as the Industry Lead Body (ILB) for Iron and Steel Industry by the
Department of Skills Development to undertake the development of NOSS for the second term (2017-2018). The development of NOSS for the different sub-sectors will allow for the setting of standards to measure the expected competencies in that sub-sector
required of the workforce to carry out the functions in a professional manner. Following the development of standards, the next step is to assist the
workforce to meet/achieve the developed standards and be awarded certification of their skills level.
This NOSS development is regulated by the National Skills Development Act 652. Based on the NOSS, skills training and certification can be conducted
thus allowing new potential talent to undergo structured training and as for the experienced personnel currently without any certificate to show their
competence, to obtain relevant certification. This is possible as the NOSS will act as the basis for the Malaysian Skills Certifications. These skill certificates
will be issued by the Department of Skills Development.
