Ms. Rice’s Weekly Update Week of 4/3 4/7 Happenings Last week We did a lot of learning and had fun doing it! Shout out to those students (Raine, Ethan, Rei, and Shoncie) and parents who came out to the garden build this weekend! Also, a big thank you to Scarlet’s dad for donating pizza for the event from his restaurant Fire and Ice Pizza! It was a great event and we can’t wait to learn in the garden for years to come! What we are learning Math – We started learning about financial literacy by playing the game of LIFE! Each student was given a job, monthly salary, and family. They have already had to purchase a house, car, and budget for groceries. They learned about credit cards and next week will continue their life by learning about savings, profit, and fixed and variable expenses! Ask your student how their ‘Life’ is going! Reading- We are looking at fiction texts and learning strategies to think deeper about them while reading. Writing- We began fiction writing last week and I love seeing the creative side of the class come out1 We worked on planning our stories with a story mountain. I can’t wait to see the final products! Science/Social studies- We took our Ecosystem test and spent a couple of days learning about the Father of Texas, Stephen F. Austin. Thursday Folders Look for graded papers, notes about attendance, and a flyer about the book fair. *Students received report cards last Thursday. Please sign a copy and return it with the manila envelope!* Coming Up April 6th - 13th - Book Fair April 11th - Reading Under the Stars Event/Family Reading Night 6-7 April 14th - No School
