Newsletter Ms. Maldag’s September 12-16, 2016 Reading: We read and discussed the story Satchel Paige, as well as a shorter text about Roberto Clemente. We focused on how to verify statements we believe are facts and practiced the comprehension skill of questioning while we read. Writing: We have spent the week brainstorming for our newsletter articles. Your child will be researching a person of their choosing to write an article about, which we will begin next week. Grammar: This week we focused on differentiating between simple, compound, and complex sentences. We also reviewed the definition and examples of antonyms. Monday we will be quizzing on these concepts. Vocabulary: We are beginning Vocabulary Lesson 2. I am trying a new strategy that will hopefully help your child be more successful by only giving them a section to complete each night. This Week’s Focus Special News We had a large number of students earn Tiger Tickets this week- encourage your child to keep up the good work! * Grand Canyon Commitment Forms were due by September 16 th , if you have not turned yours in please do so! J September 21 Half day September 26-30 Book Fair October 7 End of first quarter Reminders Upcoming Events
