Marshall bought 8 potatoes for $1.60. How many potatoes could he buy for $3.00?
Step 1: Label the proportion with the items you are comparing, and fill in the numbers.
x

Step 2: Multiply the diagonals.
Step 3: Solve by isolating the x.
What is 40% of 20?
Step 1: Write the percent over 100. Write the number by “is” in the numerator, and the number by “of” in the denominator.
Step 2: Multiply the diagonals.
Step 3: Solve by isolating the x.

I liked the proportions word problems that related to shopping.
I didn’t like the problems that involved decimals.
The hardest part was solving percent problems when I didn’t see an “is” or “of” in the problem.
The easiest part was solving the proportions after I wrote them. I learned how to do that in elementary school.
