Narendra Menon
(Hon. Secretary)
12
The second year of MPCA’s first body “elected by ballot” has produced great results for MP cricket on the
cricket field and also off the field.
During the last few years, the Association took many proactive steps towards creating pathway for the
development of the upcoming talent. Our teams got proper exposure by participating in quality practice
matches, domestic as well as abroad. Initially, few of our associates were skeptical about the outcome of
such cricket oriented measures. However, with the excellent efforts on part the players on the field, well
supported by the administrative acumen, we have been able to derive the best from such initiatives. The
teams were able to continue their winning streak right through the BCCI domestic season and we played
exceedingly well.
In 2011, in a short span of 6 months, the Association hosted one ODI and 2 back to back matches of the
Indian Premier League. Presently, the expectations from the Associations hosting such events have been
broadened to a great extent. I am glad to mention that with the keen support from our close associates,
we could host the matches with perfection.
The season 2011-12 saw a record breaking event in the form of Virendra Sehwag’s 219 at Indore in the
ODI. It also saw MP seniors reaching the quarter finals of all the tournaments they played in, the U-22
reaching the semi finals after qualifying from the plate group, the U-19 team reaching the finals of the one
day event and quarter finals of the multi day event. The year also saw our residential academy getting off
the blocks, our umpires doing well at all levels, our divisions making great strides in developing their
infrastructure and to cap it all our former Hon. Secretary, our guiding light- Sanjay Jagdale took over as
the Hon. Secretary in the BCCI.
I would start by remembering those who left us during the last year. MPCA deeply mourns the sad demise
of our life members Late Shri Dinkar Soman and Late Shri Prashant Bhor, cricketers, eminent
personalities and other associates who left us during the last year.
Ranji Trophy :
Madhya Pradesh seniors performed admirably to reach the quarter finals of the Ranji Trophy qualifying
from elite group ‘B’. This was the team’s first year in the elite group after being in the plate group for the last
many years.
The team started its campaign disastrously against Baroda. On a grassy Moti Baug pitch at Vadodara, MP
boys were bowled out for a paltry 63 in just 27.3 overs before lunch on day one. It was difficult to recover
from such a shock. MP however, fought back well in the second innings after being 312 runs behind,
ANNUAL REPORT 2011-12
13
scoring 365 but eventually lost by eight wickets.
In the next match against Bengal, MP were again forced back by the double centurion Manoj Tiwary
(267) who helped his team to a huge 496. It appeared to be a tough task to chase the score against the
tough side. However, our boys, riding on the confidence level of chasing a 500+ target against the Sri
Lankan side during the practice match played in Colombo, surpassed the score in a great style. Naman
Ojha (127) and Mohnish Mishra (132) added 199 for the second wicket. With the middle and lower order
contributing solidly MP chased down the score. There was drama still, when MP needed to get 20 runs
with eight wickets down but managed to cross the target, ultimately reaching 533.
MP had two home games after this and they took full advantage of both on the lively Emeralds Heights
pitch. Ishwar Pandey (6-31) and TP Sudhindra (3-33) skittled out Gujarat for 130. The two fast bowlers
starred with the bat as well, adding 88 for the last wicket to rescue MP from 117 for 9 to 205. Sudhindra
made 51 and Pandey an unbeaten 36. Gujarat batted better in the second innings against a rampant
Sudhindra (6-60) and set a target of 198 for MP to get. Promising Udit Birla (52 NO) played a good knock
to steer the team home by five wickets.
Next, we played a much stronger Delhi team. This time Amit Sharma partnered Sudhindra to restrict Delhi
to 158. MP struggled against the strong Delhi pace attack which included Ashish Nehra and conceded a
lead of 2 runs. Delhi got a very good 296 in the second essay despite Sudhindra’s (5-65) lion hearted
efforts. Scoring 299 to win was not going to be easy on this track. MP lost two wickets early but Naman
Ojha (107) and Devendra Bundela (68), with 184 for the third wicket brought MP back in the reckoning.
Despite some jitters Udit Birla (49 NO) took MP home.
MP’s next match was against Haryana. Naman Ojha (160) scored his third ton of the season and MP put
up a huge score of 487. Sudhindra (7-48), put another great effort to pack up Haryana for just 126 forcing
the opponents to follow on. Haryana put up a better display in the second knock to earn a draw.
In the last match of the league MP played Tamil Nadu who made 486. MP replied with 289. Zafar Ali was
unlucky to miss his first century at first class level by just two runs. Another new boy, Amarjeet Singh (4-
46) showed his skills to bowl out Tamil Nadu for 208 in the second innings. MP thus finished second in
the group behind Tamil Nadu.
The quarter final opponents for MP were Mumbai. MP managed just 192 in the first innings and looked
like making a match of it by reducing Mumbai to 60 for 5. But Kaustubh Pawar (161) took the match away
from MP almost single handedly. Mohnish Mishra and Devendra Bundela scored centuries in the second
innings but MP will rue the failure to grab the chance to win the match.
For MP the stars of the season were Naman Ojha (668 runs), Mohnish Mishra (470 runs) and Devendra
14
Bundela (448 runs) but the performance of Birla was also heart warming. Amongst the bowlers
Sudhindra (40 wickets) was ably supported by Ishwar Pandey (25 wickets). Sudhindra ended up being
the highest wicket taker of the season.
Vijay Hazare Trophy :
MP kept up its good performance in the short format by qualifying from the Central Zone league but came
up croppers against Bengal in the first match of the knock out. Despite restricting Bengal to 230 in 45
overs MP could not overhaul the score due to some fine bowling by Ashok Dinda (5-54) and managed
just 215. Earlier in the league stage, MP defeated UP by nine wickets to start the campaign, but they had a
shocker in the next match against Railways. They were bowled out for just 48 runs. MP defeated
Rajasthan by four wickets with Udit Birla (102 NO) doing the star turn. MP lost to Vidarbha in the last match
despite Rameez Khan’s knock of 97. The two wins were enough for MP to earn a place in the knock-out.
The two young guns Rameez Khan (145) and Udit Birla (144) performed well, as did Anand Singh in the
limited opportunities he got. Amongst the bowlers Sudhindra, Ankit Sharma and Jalaj Saxena took seven
wickets each.
Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy T20 :
The quarter final proved to the stumbling block again for the state seniors and this time it was Punjab who
stopped MP from progressing. Before MP could settle into the match, they were 16 for 6. Rameez Khan
(45) and Ankit Sharma (41) added 74 in 12.1 overs but 120 was not enough and Punjab won with two
overs to spare.
Earlier in the league stage hosted by us at the Holkar Stadium, MP defeated Railways by 2 runs in a
dramatic last over finish. MP then beat Rajasthan by 7 wickets, Vidarbha by 35 runs and Uttar Pradesh by
32 runs to finish with a clean slate. MP made a huge 201 for 6 against UP.
Naman Ojha (132), Harpreet Singh (129) and Rameez Khan (103) were the top run getters for the
team.TP Sudhindra (9 wickets ) and Ankit Sharma ( 8 wickets) starred with the ball.
C.K. Nayudu Trophy (U-22) :
The performance of the U-22 team was a huge success story. After a dismal performance in the last year,
MP played very well. We not only qualified from the Plate group but made it to the semi finals of the Elite
level. An truly appreciable performance indeed.
MP started well against Railways, getting the important first innings points.Manoj Singh got a second
innings hundred in the match. Satyam Choudhary played a marathon knock of 262 lasting 516 minutes
15
against Himachal Pradesh and was ably supported by Abdus Samad (175).The pair added 366 for the
fourth wicket. Anurag Singh’s (5-61) bowling efforts once again gave MP the lead.
MP then thrashed Tripura by an innings. This time the century makers were Bhatia and Rameez Khan.
Ankit Sharma took five wickets in the first innings. MP conceded the lead to Kerala. Rameez Khan (55 &
131 NO) was the lone warrior in the match as he could not get enough support from the other batters.
Satyam had yet another innings century against Hyderabad as MP booked their place in the Plate semi
finals. Amarjeet Singh (5-75) continued his good work with the ball. MP destroyed Jammu & Kashmir by
an innings to reach the elite level. Amarjeet Singh (match haul of 9-78) was unplayable in both the innings
and was ably supported by Nikhil Sawke.
The quarter final match was played at Mumbai and it was Anurag Singh (match figures 7-110) and Nikhil
Sawke (match figures 6-93) who came to the party. Mumbai could get just 109 & 260 in the two innings,
to which, MP’s reply was a solid 318 that helped the team to win by ten wickets.
The semi final was hosted by Punjab at Patiala. On a flat deck Punjab made mammoth 601. MP replied
very well with an opening partnership of 181. Later,MP were kept in the hunt by Harpreet Singh Bhatia’s
Hundred. At one stage they were 416 for 5 but lost the last five wickets for 41 runs.
The performance by the lads was truly applaudable. Satyam Choudhary (719), Rameez Khan (509),
Harpreet Singh (422) and Manoj Singh (402) handled the batting responsibilities very well. Amarjeet
Singh (27 wickets) and Anurag Singh (26 wickets) did the demolition job with help also coming from
Sawke and Nahar. Manoj Singh with 33 dismissals behind the wickets supported the bowlers well.
Cooch Behar Trophy (U-19) :
MP were placed in Elite Group ‘B’ this year and played its first match against Delhi. After restricting Delhi
to 324, MP made 485 for 7 thanks to a 141 run partnership between Aditya Shrivastava (139) and Avnish
Dhaliwal (71).
In the next match skipper Subham Sharma (222) and Anuj Kumar (113) added 227 for the third wicket to
help MP reach a mammoth 470 for 5. Jharkhand fought back well and made 386, but MP earned the first
innings points.
MP next played Kerala at BHEL Bhopal. Batting first Kerala made a huge 515 for 5. In reply, Mukul Raghav
(135) and Shubham Sharma (150 NO) kept MP in the hunt but Raghav’s dismissal gave Kerala the chance
. Ultimately MP managed to survive at 353 for 8 and both the teams had to be satisfied without any points.
In the last match of the league, MP played against Mumbai and piled up 511 for 9 thanks to Shantanu
16
Tripathi (101) and Shubham Sharma (176). Mumbai started well but once the opening partnership was
broken, Mayank Jain (6-72) ran through the rest of the line up to give MP the lead.
MP’s opponents in the quarter finals were Himachal Pradesh. Some sluggish bowling by the quickies,
helped Himachal score a healthy 409. MP looked like replying well, when Raghav (70) and Sharma (74)
were at the crease but once they fell, it was a slide all the way. From 154 for 1 MP collapsed to 176 all out
with part time spinner Prashant Chopra taking (6-26). He also scored 158 and 106 in the two innings.
Captain Shubham Sharma who scored 698 runs with three centuries was MP’s best player and was well
supported by Mukul Raghav (350) runs. Amongst the bowlers, Mayank Jain (17 wickets) and Saransh
Jain (14 wickets) shared the major spoils.
Vinoo Mankad Trophy (U-19 One Day) :
MP juniors put up an excellent performance to reach the finals of the tournament defeating tough
opposition on the way. MP lost to UP by 44 runs in the finals. UP did not look like getting beyond 250 but
some indifferent bowling in the last ten overs helped them get 82 runs and reach a score of 288 for 8.
Despite Shubham Sharma’s (104) effort, MP could reach only 244.
In the semi finals MP defeated Delhi by 7 wickets after Mayank Jain (5-43) restricted them to 175. Raghav
(78) starred in MP’s batting effort. In the quarter finals, MP defeated Bengal by 9 wickets, thanks to Rajat
Patidar’s hundred in a chase of 185.
MP’s passage to knock out stage was decided after a win over Rajastan and a tied game against Vidarbha.
Both the matches were exciting. MP made 188 against Rajasthan and defended the score well to win by 2
runs. Against Vidarbha, MP had to get 121 for victory but could not reach the target. It was Aditya
Shrivastava (37 NO) who added 21 runs with the number eleven batsman in three overs to earn MP the
tie. MP lost to UP in the third league tie but still qualified for the knock out.The Railways team backed out
of the tournament at the last minute and hence there were only 4 teams in the league phase.
In a low scoring event, Shubham Sharma (287) and Rajat Patidar’s (210) efforts were praise worthy. The
bowlers, specially Mayank Jain and Tanmay Patwardhan, did a decent job.
Vijay Merchant Trophy (U-16) :
Our team started badly, losing the first two matches outright. Uttar Pradesh defeated us by 147 runs and
Rajasthan thrashed us by an innings and 169 runs. Mehul Singh’s (106) second innings hundred against
UP and Nitish Lashkari’s (103) first innings century against Rajasthan were the only performances worth
mentioning.
17
Lashkari scored another century in the next match against Vidarbha which helped the team take the first
innings lead. Chandan Gill (120 NO) and Chetan Virhe (95) also batted well in the match while Gaurav
Patel (5-85) was the bowling star.
For the team Nitish Lashkari (223) and Shivam Tiwari (8 wickets) were the top two performers. But the
efforts of Chandan Gill, Mehul Singh Baghel, Chetan Virhe and Gaurav Patel were also praiseworthy.
Senior Women’s One Day Championship :
The Central Zone league has always been tough, with the powerful Railways as one of the teams. MP
though started the season well beating Rajasthan by 45 runs. MP made 213 with contributions from
Ruchita Buley, Jaiswal and Bundela. Rajasthan were bowled out for 168. It was downhill march
afterwards. Vidarbha restricted us to a mere 100 and won by 7 wickets. Then Railway made a massive
303 for 3 and limited us to 161. The last match against UP was well fought. MP made 150 with the help of
Shweta Mishra’s 72. UP did not have it easy but won by 3 wickets in the 49th over.
Only Ruchita Buley (130) and Neetu Jaiswal (121) could cross the hundred run mark amongst the
batters.
Senior Women’s T20 Championship :
The tournament was hosted by MPCA at Bhopal. MP started well defeating Rajasthan by 4 wickets. Then
Railway asserted its supremacy over us with a 9 wicket victory. In the next match UP defeated MP by 29
runs. MP won the last match against Vidarbha by 7 wickets to finish the league with two wins and two
losses but still could not qualify.
Shweta Mishra with 88 runs was the top scorer while Varsha Choudhary came up with a few all round
performances but clearly that was not enough.
U-19 Women’s One Day Championship :
The juniors girls had a ordinary tournament losing to Rajasthan by 92 runs failing to chase a score of 164.
UP then defeated us by a huge margin of 129 runs. MP had a consolation win 7 wicket win over Vidarbha.
Apart from Kalpana Yadav’s match winning effort against Vidarbha only the bowling performance of
Shreyanshi Singh was worth a mention.
One Day International at Indore :
The one day match between India and West Indies was played at Indore on 8 Dec 2011. The match will go
down in the history books as the one in which Virendra Sehwag scored a huge 219 to become the highest
18
individual scorer in an ODI. India won the match quite convincingly. India scored 418 for 5 while West
Indies replied with 265, making it 683 runs for the match.
We are proud that both our grounds have been associated with history making achievements. It was at
Gwalior on 24 Feb 2010, that Sachin Tendulkar became the first man to score a double hundred in an ODI
and with Sehwag surpassing that at Indore, MP grounds have got a permanent place in history books. A special
award of Rs. Ten lacs was presented to Virendra Sehwag on behalf of MPCA for his stupendous feat.

The Men's Sr. team went to Colombo from 17th September to 11th October 2011. We played three four
day games (won all), two 50 overs games (lost both) and three T/20 matches (won 2, lost 1).
Our boys played exceedingly well against the opponents and this was widely appreciated by Sri Lankan
cricket authorities. The players had the opportunity to interact with former Sri Lankan cricketers, head
coach of the Sri Lankan Cricket Academy, National Selectors and other personalities of repute in Sri
Lankan cricket.
Our U/19 team played against Mumbai, Punjab and few other teams before the start of the BCCI domestic
season. The practice games proved to be very helpful in creating the perfect pathway for their
performance in the BCCI tournaments.
Our U/16 team played against Punjab (at Gwalior) and at Baroda, with an encouraging performance
before the season.
The MPCA academy team went to Chennai to play a few matches while the U/14 team toured Rajasthan
for four 2 day matches. The womens team hosted Rajasthan for five 1 day and two T20 matches. The
teams played very well and had a upper hand in all the three tours.
In May this year, MPCA U-19 team played practice matches against the National Development squad of
'Cricket Sri Lanka' at Colombo. We played at the best of the grounds and leveled the 3 match series of
limited over games 1 – 1 (one match was washed out). In the series of multi-day games, we won two out
of the 3 matches. Remaining game ended in a draw.
On a similar note, the senior team also performed exceedingly well this year on its tour to Colombo
where we played against the Sri Lanka 'A' side and other contracted players. We won the series of limited
overs & T/20 matches and also the first match of the multi-day series.
Seminar, Courses and Camps :
Aiming to create a pool of qualified resource personnel who shall handle the responsibilities of team
development, MPCA conducted following education courses during the year -
ØVideo analysts : MPCA conducted a 3-day education course under special arrangement with the
BCCI. The experienced faculty from National Academy for Umpires (NAU) Ashutosh Dandige
educated the candidates on the intricacies of this field. The best performer, Kushagra Nagpal
from Gwalior, got the opportunity to appear for the BCCI exam and he has qualified successfully.
With this, the total strength of qualified analysts from MPCA has increased to 8.
ØLevel 'O' trainers : A 2-day education course under the MPCA Academy faculty was held at
Holkar Stadium to select the suitable candidates for the BCCI Level 'O' course. Both the
21
candidates recommended by MPCA, Ms. Garima Jain and Mr. Hemant Tiwari, have successfully
cleared the course.
ØScorer's Seminar and Examination : MPCA conducted a course for scorers from across the
state. P.Jayapal, apprised them of the latest in the scoring field. Examination was conducted
during the final of the J.N.Bhaya Trophy T20 tournament. All the four candidates Sumit Bhati,
Jayant Wankhede, Dhirendra Singh Chouhan and Dhirendra Singh Bhadoria recommended on
the basis of this course, later cleared the BCCI exam for the scorers. Now we have 8 BCCI Panel
scorers under our wings.
ØState Panel Exam for umpires : With a view to keep up the great tradition of umpiring in the
state, MPCA organized two day orientation courses in each of the divisions to shortlist
candidates for the state panel examination. The courses were conducted by BCCI educators
Sudhir Asnani, Rajiv Risodkar and Sanjeev Dua with assistance from BCCI umpires Nitin Menon,
Nikhil Patwardhan and Manish Jain. The shortlisted candidates, will be called for advanced
training and state panel examination to be held later.
MPCA's Residential Academy : The association's residential academy has started its work in right
earnest. With chief coach Amay Khurasiya and his team devoting full attention to the resident trainees,
the young lads are taking advantage of the attention and facilities. They have started performing well for
their schools and divisions. Already Pranjal Puri has made it to the All India School's team to tour Sri
Lanka.
With the sub-center at Indore being in operation from October 2011 and the Ujjain Sub-centre about to
start in the next couple of months, we have now completed the second phase of the set-up for a deep rooted
penetration of the quality training / coaching. The scheme for developing residential academies at the Divisional
places is in pipeline.
We have also proposed reciprocal tours for practice matches of the divisional teams against competitive
teams from outside MP and reciprocal tours for practice matches between Sub-centre teams.
We are planning to have special camps for players from the district and to have a visiting trainer for
Divisional sub-centres.
Visits by dignitaries : Eminent cricket personalities visited MPCA during the last year and appreciated
the positive work being carried out by MPCA towards the development of the game in the state. We
honored Rahul Dravid for his yeoman contribution to the game of cricket. We also had the opportunity to
display the World T20 trophy at the Holkar stadium for a pre tournament preview by our members and
associates. The trophy was brought to Indore by the double centurion at Indore Virendra Sehwag. Other
visitors were Mohinder Amarnath, Syed Saba Karim and Sandeep Patil, amongst others.
22
BCCI's tournaments :
MPCA hosted the Final match of the prestigious Duleep Trophy Tournament at Indore. This was the first
5-day game at Holkar Stadium. East Zone won this trophy for the first time ever.
We also hosted the Central Zone league stage of the Men's T20 and Women's Senior T20 tournament at
Indore and Bhopal respectively.
Bhopal also successfully organized the Women's U-19 one day tournament's knock out round.
U-14 Central Zone tournament under our initiative : The first U-14 tournament for the Central Zone
teams was hosted by MPCA at Indore. Though our team did not qualify for the finals, it was an extremely
important exposure for the youngsters. MPCA, with support from other associations, experimented
playing the matches on uncovered pitches. The experiment proved to be encouraging and was
appreciated by all, including the BCCI. This tournament will now be organized by other states in the zone
on a rotation basis.
Inter School Tournament : MPCA conducted the inter school tournament for the Coca Cola Cup 2012.
The tournament, under the patronage of prominent beverage brand – Coca Cola, was played
simultaneously at Indore, Sagar, Rewa and Gwalior , with 8 teams being invited for the tournament at
each place.
After the intra-city segment, winner from each city played the inter-city leg at Holkar Stadium, Indore. In
the nail biting final, played between Christain Eminent School, Indore and Kiddy's Corner, Gwalior, the
Indore team surpassed the target with just two balls to spare.
The winner got the berth in the Inter State league tournament, played between winners of 10 states
across India. The MP team reached the semi finals of this tournament, losing to Uttar Pradesh by a
whisker. Pranjal Puri, a product of our residential academy was selected in the Coca Cola All India team
for the 6-day coaching camp followed by matches against the Sri Lankan National U/16 side.
BCCI Secretary's Office : It is a matter of pride that the BCCI office is operational from the Holkar
Stadium, consequent to Sanjay Jagdale taking over as Hon. Secretary of the BCCI.
Naming of stadium properties :
The initiative on part of MPCA to honour eminent cricketers, administrators and others who have
contributed towards the promotion of cricket in a way or other has received great appreciation from all
quarters.

Gratitude :
I would like to thank all the persons who helped me conduct the activities of the association, particularly all those
involved in the successful organization of the One Day International between India and West Indies.
My sincere thanks to our president, Shri Jyotiraditya M Scindia, for his valuable guidance and support at all times.
I express my gratitude for the cooperation I received from Mr. Sanjay Jagdale in my efforts to execute the responsibility
entrusted on me. For me, it was a relatively easier task to work on the strong edifice developed by him vide his massive
work in terms of cricket development, administration and most importantly the strong network of quality human
resources who are keen to extend their help in the various activities of the Association.
Many thanks to the members of the Managing Committee, fellow Office-Bearers and Office Bearers of various divisions
affiliated to us for their cooperation and support during this period.
I thank all the volunteers who helped to make the ODI at Indore a huge success. It is fair to say that cricket may not
survive without its huge army of unsung heroes. Volunteers are vital to the health and development of grass roots
cricket. Without them, the future of the beautiful game would be in jeopardy.
I thank the State Government, Local administration, Police and other departments for their help and support to
organise the event faultlessly.
The media coverage of our activities was excellent throughout the year. I thank the print and news media for this.
I thank the Emerald Heights International School for providing us the cricket ground throughout the year. Also to
administration of Yeshwant Club, Indore Tennis Club, Abhay Prashal, Vivekanand School, Basketball Trust for their
help in conducting our activities.
Thanks also to our Chartered Accountants - M/s Anil Kamal Garg & Co. and printers Reliable Advertising for their
support and help.
I would also like to thank Oakley's, Reebok and other sponsors for their patronage to MP cricket.
Compilation of this report has been done by Rajiv Risodkar and Mahaveer Singh Arya. My thanks to them. I would also
like to thank the CEO for his tireless efforts as also to my office staff, and ground staff for their hard work throughout the
year, particularly during the ODI.
Most importantly, I would like to thank the members of the association for their constructive participation in the
activities of the association.
28
While I conclude my report, I would like to mention about the sudden awareness amongst certain section of our
Associates who appear to be keen to measure the development of the game and the association in terms of the
language of the legal documents and voluminous record keeping. It appears that these associates were themselves
not aware about the activities of the association for a long while, which in turn reflect their limited contribution to the
association. MPCA is structured with a motive of supporting the game of cricket. It would be detrimental to the cause
if we shift our focus from the core requirements.
Hopefully, better sense would prevail at the earliest so that the efficiency of the administrative team is not required to
be diverted to soothe personal motives.
Narendra Menon
Honorary Secretary

Naman Ojha : He came to the party big time in the season 2011-12 displaying amazing consistency and dependability. The dashing 30 year old showed the positive effects of his marriage by playing with great maturity. He amassed 668 runs in Ranji trophy at an average of 60.72. He played all the 18 matches for IPL team Delhi Daredevils and scored 255 runs and effected16 dismissals behind the wickets, the highest in IPL 2012.
Senior Cricketer of the Year :
Rameez Khan: He has showed his talent right from the junior days and his transition to the senior level was awaited with expectations. The 22 year old from Sagar finally made his debut in Ranji Trophy this season and started with moderate success but it was his performance in the U-22 tournament which had everybody admiring. He scored 509 runs at 101.80 with three centuries guiding the team to the semi final of the tournament. He scored the highest runs for MP in the Vijay Hazare tournament. His innings of 97 against Vidarbha was a class act. He also rescued MP against Punjab in the T20 match. Rameez has the makings of an all-rounder who can serve MP for a long time.
Shubham Sharma: The 19 year old was one of the probables for the India U-19 team for the Junior World Cup. He led the Madhya Pradesh U-19 team to the finals of the one day tournament and the quarter finals of the multi day event finishing as the highest run getter in both the events. He scored 287 runs in the one day tournament including a hundred. Shubham is a batsman in the modern mould who loves to attack but also has a solid technique. He also has a good head on his shoulders. He scored 698 runs in the Cooch Behar Trophy including three hundreds and knocks of 222 against Jharkhand, 176 against Mumbai and 150 not out against Kerala. Surely a big innings boy.
Satyam Choudhary : Here is a solid batsman who can grind the opposition to dust. Satyam Choudhary finished as the highest scorer in the U-22 tournament in the whole country with 719 runs including two hundreds. He scored 262 against Himachal batting for more than 500 minutes and 136 against Hyderabad. Satyam, who has come up the hard way has the ability to anchor the teams batting in years to come. Satyam is known to be a team man with the right attitude. He always plays within his limitations and is the accumulator every team desires specially in the longer version of the game. One hopes his hard work pays off.

Sweet Sixteen ! Narendra Deepchand Hirwani was 19 years 2 months and
24 days when he made his test debut at Chennai in Jan 1988, a
relatively unknown face and with his spectacled looks an unlikely
killer. But four days later when the match finished the whole of the
world knew him, more so the West Indians who were left
wondering as to what had hit them. In the first innings he had
analysis of 18.3-3-61-8 including the scalp of the great Vivian
Richards who was bamboozled. The victims included Richardson,
Logie Hooper and Dujon In the second innings it was Hirwani
again with a spell of 15.2-3-75-8. He dismissed Richards again and
had five of his victims stumped by the keeper More. India won by
255 runs. Hirwani, showing all the variations of a Leg Spinner
really had the West Indians in a spin. His match analysis of 33.5-6-
136-16 remains till today the best figures by a debutant in a test
match and the third best figures of all time. Hirwani took nearly
800 wickets in first class cricket and was known for his ability to
plan the batsman out. He is highly regarded today as a national
selector and his advice is sought by all upcoming bowlers. Really a
Jewel of MP!!!
