MPC Monthly Newsletter September 2018 Hey PNC, Where Are We? When a congregation is searching for a pastor, a common question members have is, “Hey PNC, where are we in the process?” I’m writing to update you on our Pastor Nominating Committee’s ministry and let you know how you may continue to stay updated. Recently the PNC and Session met to approve our Ministry Information Form (MIFs.) Through demographic data, leadership qualifications, and narrative questions, this document describes our congregation and the pastor we seek. Our PNC has prayerfully and carefully crafted this document over the past few months based on the Holy Cow survey results and the listening sessions they conducted. As I said to our PNC and Session, I’ve read a lot of MIFs over the years. Many of them have a tendency to be very generic and don’t tell much about the congregation. The MIF our PNC created is very thoughtful, informative and provides a great snapshot of McDonough Presbyterian Church. When we elected them, we trusted them to represent us to candidates. They faithfully answered that call in preparing the MIF. Well done, PNC! Now that the PNC has discerned who we are, the next step is to discern which candidate Christ is calling to serve as our next pastor. The MIF has been posted on our denomination’s Church Leadership Connection website, a data base that allows candidates to read our MIF and submit their application. Please continue to pray for our PNC members: Blair Andrews Eddy Smith Emerson Elliott Teressa Staten Mike Griffin John Wadsworth Lewis Robinson Jean Williams Just as we trust these brothers and sisters to call the right candidate to be our next pastor, we trust Jesus already knows whom He has called. Thus, as we pray for our PNC, we also pray for this candidate and for our congregation – that the Spirit would be preparing us for the incredible ministry God has envisioned for this coming partnership. God indeed has the brightest of bright futures for MPC. So let us be faithful to our call to pray for our leadership (current and future), to pray for one another, and, above all, to pray for Christ’s leading – and may we give Him all the glory. Hey PNC, Where Are We?

When a congregation is searching for a pastor, a common question members have is, “Hey

PNC, where are we in the process?” I’m writing to update you on our Pastor Nominating

Committee’s ministry and let you know how you may continue to stay updated.

Recently the PNC and Session met to approve our Ministry Information Form (MIFs.)

Through demographic data, leadership qualifications, and narrative questions, this

document describes our congregation and the pastor we seek. Our PNC has prayerfully and

carefully crafted this document over the past few months based on the Holy Cow survey

results and the listening sessions they conducted. As I said to our PNC and Session, I’ve

read a lot of MIFs over the years. Many of them have a tendency to be very generic and

don’t tell much about the congregation. The MIF our PNC created is very thoughtful,

informative and provides a great snapshot of McDonough Presbyterian Church. When we

elected them, we trusted them to represent us to candidates. They faithfully answered that

call in preparing the MIF. Well done, PNC!

Now that the PNC has discerned who we are, the next step is to discern which candidate

Christ is calling to serve as our next pastor. The MIF has been posted on our

denomination’s Church Leadership Connection website, a data base that allows candidates

to read our MIF and submit their application. Please continue to pray for our PNC members:

Blair Andrews Eddy Smith

Emerson Elliott Teressa Staten

Mike Griffin John Wadsworth

Lewis Robinson Jean Williams

Just as we trust these brothers and sisters to call the right candidate to be our next pastor, we

trust Jesus already knows whom He has called. Thus, as we pray for our PNC, we also pray

for this candidate and for our congregation – that the Spirit would be preparing us for the

incredible ministry God has envisioned for this coming partnership.

God indeed has the brightest of bright futures for MPC. So let us be faithful to our call to

pray for our leadership (current and future), to pray for one another, and, above all, to pray

for Christ’s leading – and may we give Him all the glory.

Stewardship Recently, I was reading my daily devotional from "Grace for the Moment" by Max Lucado. The

title for that day's message was "More Than Family." In Romans, chapter 12, verses 4-5, Paul writes "We are all parts of Christ's body, and each of us has different work to do. And since we are all one body in Christ, we belong to each other, and each of us needs all the others." As we

begin the Stewardship season, I ask you to think, meditate and pray about the special talents or abilities God has given you and how you can best apply them to our church. Take the initiative

to grow spiritually by participating in one of our church activities - Sunday school, women's circle, or men's breakfast. And then find an opportunity for you to share your talent by serving in one of our committees or projects. The church. More than family, we are friends. More than

friends, we are family. God's family of friends. Thanks be to God! -George Stellings

in The Anchor and on the Field We’re kicking off the fall season with a picnic and games, and we want YOU to be there! There’ll be a water

slide, bouncy house, water balloons, corn hole, and, of course, lots of great food. We’ll provide the fried

chicken and ice cream. You provide a side dish and your favorite ice cream topping. Sign up on the Realm,

on Facebook, or at the reception desk by the Anchor. Invite your friends, family, and neighbors – the more,

the merrier! Dress casually in clothes that can get a little wet. (Either bring a change of clothes, or dress

casually for the day on Sunday morning!) Summer may be over, but the fun has only just begun! See you on

September 9!

Adopt-A-Teacher College Football Frenzy:

September 1 begins the Adopt-A-Teacher College Football Frenzy: Teachers in our public schools often

spend a significant amount of money to purchase schools supplies for students. In order to help the teachers in

our congregation, we will be hosting the football frenzy campaign (Sept 1 - 30). The college football boxes

will be lined up outside the Anchor Gym. We will also have an Adopt-A-Teacher poster with all the supplies

on the teacher's wish list (i.e. paper towels, pens, pencils, disinfecting wipes, crayons,

paper...). Please pickup supplies and donate in your favorite team’s box. May the best team

win! If you have questions about how you can help, please contact Priti Griffin.
