When we became fans

Firefox 1 was trying to cross “The chasm”

Page 3: Mozilla Magazine (2009)_2

When we became fans

Grass root marketing and word of mouth did a lot…

Page 4: Mozilla Magazine (2009)_2

When we became fans

We liked the to read a lot: Mozilla.org

Asa’s blog

Page 5: Mozilla Magazine (2009)_2

Now Firefox is mainstream

We would like to follow the interesting stuff but…

?Where is it

To technical

It is to much

I like to take my time and read (not click in websites)

Page 6: Mozilla Magazine (2009)_2

So why not a magazine

For a target base (13.5 %) *

Page 7: Mozilla Magazine (2009)_2

But what about them

Do they know where to find interesting stuff?

?

Page 8: Mozilla Magazine (2009)_2

They like technical stuff…

Only a small target base (2.5 %) *

Page 9: Mozilla Magazine (2009)_2

They like technical stuff…

So create a space related to the magazine for further reading. In depth technical reviews, with supplementary material on the web.

Page 10: Mozilla Magazine (2009)_2

Why them also

Other cool stuff will come, not only in the Mozilla landscape, so keep them interested! Then the early adopters will grass root it!

Page 11: Mozilla Magazine (2009)_2

Why them also

So you dynamically focus on the mainstream of today and tomorrow…

Page 12: Mozilla Magazine (2009)_2

Will they read it?

They do not want to read a lot, but they may want to learn some things…

?Is it a target????

Page 13: Mozilla Magazine (2009)_2

Yes and no, but some is good.

Large target base (34 %) *

Page 14: Mozilla Magazine (2009)_2

And them?

The remaining 50%, they do not drive the new stuff forward. They may get curious occasionally

Page 15: Mozilla Magazine (2009)_2

Some curiosity

What are they reading

Is that something for me?

I email, what is this blue bird doing for emails?

Page 16: Mozilla Magazine (2009)_2

A magazine is not a portal or news-website

versus

Page 17: Mozilla Magazine (2009)_2

But web based journals do exsist

Page 18: Mozilla Magazine (2009)_2

Lets talk content1. Mozilla dictated

2. Some Mozilla dictated, some community input

3. Little Mozilla input, Community dictated

4. Community dictated

1. Editorial, intern

2. Editorial, intern/extern, SFX, peer reviewed articles?

3. Alsmost a wiki, a collection

4. Could be anything…

Page 19: Mozilla Magazine (2009)_2

My opinion…• As a scientist I like

journals based on “interactive open-access journal for the communication peer-reviewed research”

• Why can not some of the content come from outside if relevant to the Mozilla landscape

• Mozilla landscape?

Mozilla landscape

Make it clear, say it here
