Mozart’s Requiem

VisiOn“I am sure many of you share my dream of performing in the Sydney Opera House and traveling down under. We can make that

dream reality in 2009. We will perform the majestic Mozart Requiem Mass in D Minor in the grandest of venues in one of the world’s great cities.

Mozart’s Requiem Mass in D Minor (K. 626), composed in 1791, is without a doubt a masterpiece of sublime choral and instrumental brilliance. It is a work that is accessible while inspiring and powerful. Join me on the stage of the Sydney Opera House Concert Hall for this great musical adventure.”

leader ERIC NELSON is Director of Choral Studies at Emory University, where he teaches graduate Choral Conducting and Choral Literature. He conducts Emory’s 40-voice Concert Choir and its 180-voice University Chorus. He is also the Artistic Director of the Atlanta Sacred Chorale, a 55-voice adult chamber choir specializing in sacred a cappella repertoire, and the Minister of Music at the historic 2nd-Ponce de Leon Baptist Church in Atlanta.

Dr. Nelson received his training in voice and choral conducting at Houghton College, Westminster Choir College, and Indiana University. He has conducted choirs throughout North America and Europe, including performances in Krakow, Berlin, Leipzig, Prague, Moscow, Washington, D.C., Carnegie Hall, Lincoln Center, Spivey Hall, the Piccolo Spoleto Festival, and at both the Southern and National Conventions of the ACDA. His ensembles have been praised for their ability to combine a high level of technical precision with warmth of musical expression.

Highly regarded as a clinician, adjudicator, lecturer, and guest conductor, Dr. Nelson has conducted and presented workshops for the American Choral Director’s Association, the Music Educator’s National Conference, the Association of Lutheran Church Musicians, the Presbyterian Association of Musicians, the American Guild of Organists, Chorister’s Guild, and for numerous churches, colleges and universities. In 2004, he was the recipient of a "Crystal Apple" award for excellence in teaching at Emory University. He is also a composer of choral music whose works are published by Colla Voce and Augsburg Fortress.

reperTOire The REQUIEM MASS IN D MINOR (K. 626) by Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart was composed in 1791. It was Mozart’s last composition and is also perhaps one of his most powerful and recognized works, not only for its music, but also for the debate as to how much of the music Mozart managed to complete before his death, and how much was later composed by his colleague Franz Xaver Süssmayr. Even with the open debate about how much of the music was Mozart’s, the Requiem has taken a prominent place as one of Mozart’s most important works.

I had a wonderful experience with my ensemble, and credit Kingsway with outstanding concert venues as well as a beautifully organized tour. Dr. Nina Nash-Robertson, Director of Choral Activities Central Michigan University

Kingsway International organized an outstanding trip to Australia for SCCC (Southern California Children’s Chorus) . The performance of the Berlioz ‘Requiem’ in the Sydney Opera Hall provided an experience of a lifetime!

It was a privilege to perform with other great artists under Dr . Hall’s baton .

Thank you Kingsway, Mr . Paul Lam, for a life changing musical opportunity .

Lori Loftus, Southern California Children’s Choir

17Mozart’s Requiem

Kingsway International produced a first-class, thoroughly professional concert in the Sydney Opera House with Eric Whitacre as our fine conductor . We thoroughly enjoyed our tour and would recommend Kingsway International without hesitation to anyone considering major international travel, as they are a very well-organized, responsive organization with a superb staff! Dr. Stan Engebretson,, Artistic Director, National Philharmonic Chorale Director of Choral Studies, George Mason University Fairfax, Virginia

I am completely satisfied that – with Kingsway – my ensembles will continue to experience the very best that performance touring can provide, outstanding service and attention to detail, incredible venues and audiences, appropriate balance of cultural exposure and free time and knowledgeable and confident guides.
