Tips on How To Help Youngsters Cope With Relocation

Moving House With Kids

Relocation is stressful and often times kids are the ones who are most affected by it. Fortunately it doesn’t need to be this way, as all you need to do is become familiar with some helpful tips

Tell Your Kids As Early As Possible

Let them know about the move at least two months in advance. The sooner the better. This won’t make relocation easier for the youngsters, but it will give them time to adjust to the idea.

Communication Is The Key

At some point of the moving preparations your children may start to feel confused and alone. Be there for them whenever they want to talk. Listen to them and assure them everything will be okay.At a difficult time like moving home you are the only friend they have because you’re in this together.

Stay Positive No Matter What

Kids are sensitive and can easily detect whether you’re feeling nervous or anxious. Do your best to appear positive and eager for this change even if you’re not all that enthusiastic.Fake it till’ you make it! Otherwise your children will start to feel the same way and your move will be a disaster.

Involve Kids In The Move

It’s important not to leave the youngsters out of your more as it will give them a feeling of losing control over their life.Instead, give them a box and ask them to pack some of their own items. Or ask them to come up with pretty packing labels.

Arrange a Goodbye Party

You can exchange contacts with other parents at this party and your kids will have a chance to say goodbye to their friends.Nowadays no one can truly stay separated thanks to social media. You kids will stay in contact as well as you.

Arrange Baby Sitter For Moving Day

Kids have no place in the house when movers are at work. If you are doing a small move across town you should try and find a friend, relative or a professional nanny to look after your child.

Load Child Items Last In Moving Van

This is done so their boxes would be the first thing you grab when unloading. After you have all their boxes in their new room, unpack the vital ones such as bed, toys, sleepwear, blankets

Bonus Tips

- Give some of your moving boxes to you kids after your move is over. Kids love playing with boxes.

- Promise your kids a treat once you get to your new home- Show your kids the way from their bedroom to your room.

That way if they need you in the middle of the night, they won’t get disoriented.
