What’s been going on in sport this week? Indoor Rowing Championship, Duke of Edinburgh camping trip, final football matches, a netball fixture, and of course all the class and clubs action! Duke of Edinburgh training camp On Saturday and Sunday 16th and 17th of March, twenty-five students spent the weekend improving their camp craft skills. It was cold and wet at times but they braved the elements well to take part in a walk to the campground, setting up tents, building shelters in the bush, making fires, roasting marshmallows, cooking over camp stove, rock climbing and much more! It was a fun weekend. Many thanks to all the volunteer staff involved, especially Ms Edwards the coordinator, and all the best to the students in their pursuit of their Bronze and Silver awards. Click here to see a short video from Tala, Nylam, and Taeja about why you should do Duke of Edinburgh.

National Junior Indoor Rowing Championship On Friday 15th March, 12 students competed at the National Junior Indoor Rowing Championship at the Copper Box Arena. It was a big event with hundreds of students - some novice and some very experienced - competing from Y7-13. Our team came with personal targets - a set number of metres they wanted to row for their year level time limit - and EVERY student surpassed their target! A big thanks to Coach Lawrence and a big congratulations to the rowing team: Sajidah Afif (8R), Aliyah Anderson (10P), Mohamed Cherabi (7W), Vandna Divecha (8N), Alina gabor (10Q), Mehul Mohan (10P), Jay Patel (7T), Sadaf Samadi (8N), Priyanka Samji (9T), Muzaina Shah (10V), Hollie Walmsley (US1), Kunjan Yogendrakumar (10T).
Football Well done to the year 11 boys football team who have made it into the semi finals of the Brent schools football competition! They will be playing against Claremont. Alperton Y10 vs Crest Academy The year 10 football team played their final match of the group stages on Wednesday against an unbeaten Crest Academy team. Crest started the match very well and kept possession of the ball for much of the first half, but it was Alperton who went into half time with a goal from Omari. Alperton went out for the second half and completely dominated the Crest team with their superior fitness levels and aggression. A second goal from Omari and a goal each for Ehssan, Emmanuel, Sabir and Yakoub completed the 6-0 win.

Alperton Y7 vs Crest Academy Alperton began the game very reserved but they soon started to feel their way into the game, stringing passes together around the opposition. The first goal went in from Reza which settled the nerves until Crest quickly equalised. This galvanised the team and we were dominant from there on. Special mention to 'my guy' Reza who scored a fantastic hatrick to help ACS win 7-1. Alperton Y8 vs Crest Academy Alperton went into the game fearing the worst, hearing about how the opposition had at least 4 academy players on the pitch. However we rose to the challenge, showing great resilience and resolve. Crest scored the opener with a lovely move finished with a tap in. Their second goal came soon after with a deflected shot. Then before half term they finished their third. The second half was completely different, Renato made some saves that David De Gea would have been proud of before Pavan got a goal back, then Purvik played Pavan in again who finished calmly. In the last kick of the game Toure had a chance to equalise but the goalkeeper saved well. We ended up just losing 3-2. MOTM: Pavan and Renato. Netball Alperton Y7/8s vs Michaela Community School On Wednesday 20th March, the Y7/8 ACS netball team hosted Michaela Community School for their first fixture together. Our girls got off to a slow start - playing with quite a few errors - however they were able to self-analyse their game, take on feedback, and show progressive improvement each quarter. The fact that our last quarter was played with excellent fluidity and confidence was a credit to the team’s resilience and dedication to their performance! ACS were very excited to come away with a 9-2 win! Well done to Aliza Ahmed (7V) and Rima Bhandari (7V) our players of the match, and to Aliyah Anderson (10P) and Alina Gabor (10Q) for being student coaches for the match.
