The Science Talent Search aims to stimulate an ongoing interest in the serious study of sciences, encouraging independent self-motivated project work amongst students. With 3271 students entering across Victoria this year, we were delighted with the following students’ achievements: Major Bursary – Experimental Research Ryan & Gary – Magnetic Catapult Joan & Vicky – Blue or Yellow? Minor Bursary – Experimental Research Soren & Malik – Balloon Blow Up Hannah & Katerina – Colourful Candy Chromatography George & Desmond – Metal Skydiver Anshal – Power of Magnetic Levitation We would like to congratulate these students on their achievements, and recognise the teaching, support and guidance of Sally Clarke, who has provided great leadership in the Science curriculum at MWNPS for a number of years. Sally’s exceptional commitment and dedication to our students is very much appreciated. Thank you also to Mr Malelis for supporting our Science Club and students in their science endeavours.

Science Talent Search Awards

Last Monday, we were extremely proudof a number of our students, whoreceived prestigious awards at theScience Talent Search awards ceremonyheld at LaTrobe University, Bundoora.

Classes for 2020

Teachers will be engaged in the preparation of classes for 2020 throughout this term. The protocol forcommunicating about your child’s needs for 2020 is in writing directly to the Principal, via letter or email, byFriday, 8th November.

Class teachers who have been working with children throughout the year, know their students, and theirfriendship groups. They are familiar with students’ learning needs, are able to make wise and informed decisionsas to placements for students for 2020 and will be directly involved when class placements are being considered.

If you are not intending for your child to return in 2020 please contact the Office immediately.

Sporting Successes

Another big congratulations to our school volleyball team whocompeted at the Regional competition last week. Our schoolwon the Regional level competition on the day, and will nowadvance to the State finals next Friday.

We continue to be very proud of all of the students’ efforts inrepresenting our school on the day. Thank you again to allparents and friends who came and supported the team on theday.

African Drumming Incursion

We were excited to host an incursion from African Drumming today, during which all students participated in apositive, energetic, and creative musical experience.

The workshops were a memorable journey of West African musical culture that let students share in acreative and inclusive learning experience.

2020 Prep Transition Program – Starts Tomorrow!

We look forward to seeing our 2020 Preps at our Prep Transition Program sessions starting tomorrow. This is awonderful opportunity for our enrolled Preps to spend time with their new peers and teachers for next year.

Term 4 Working Bee – Saturday, 16th November, 9am-12pm

Come along to our Term 4 Working Bee! Help for any length of time, at any time is very warmly welcomed.

Our Working Bee will focus on leaf litter removal, gutter cleaning, mulch spreading, weed removal, generaltidying and cleaning as well as some minor maintenance work and repairs.

Meet at the Maintenance Shed behind Block B. Thank you for your continued support.

Walk to School Month

Well done to every student who participated in Walk to School month inOctober. We have seen fantastic effort put in to ensure that you weregetting to school in a sustainable and healthy way. We hope you allenjoyed participating and enjoying being part of this fun initiative. Welook forward to participating again next year!

Hats

As per the school’s SunSmart Policy, hats must be worn outside at recess and lunchtime, as well as when involvedin sports or Physical Education lessons outside.

Spare hats can not be distributed to students who do not have a hat with them. This is for health reasons.Students without a hat must play in the shade.

New Covered Outdoor Learning Area

We recently applied to the State Government for a new covered outdoor learning area forour students. This would provide an accessible, covered and resurfaced outdoor learningarea which will allow for inclusivity for all students, including those with mobility needs.

Matt Fregon, our local Member of Parliament is supporting the school to bring this fundingapplication before the Minister for Education, and we ask all parents and friends of MountWaverley North Primary School to sign our petition to aid the success of our application.The petition is available to sign at the school office, and will be circulated around the gatesbefore and after school. We would really appreciate your support in this matter.

Assembly

We would like to invite all members of our community to assembly this coming Monday morning at 9am. At thisassembly, our Local Member of Parliament, Matt Fregon, will be presenting the school with new flags for theschool. Our School Rock band will be performing, and we also have special guests from the Rotary Club of MountWaverley to present awards for the Year 5/6 Remembrance Day Poetry Competition. We look forward to seeingyou there!

Monday’s curriculum day was a hit! We split up into teams and had a ”Ready, Steady, Cook” style challenge. The children had free range of the kitchen to make their own meals as a team. We had some interesting concoctions of puff pastry and marshmallows, yoghurt sprinkles and fruit, cookies, pasta, smoothies and am incredible restaurant set up for the judges to enjoy! I am so proud of the children for working together so positively.

Christmas CompetitionWe are well underway to turning our room into a gingerbread house! If you have a Christmas hat/shirt/headband, please bring it in for filming over the coming weeks.

Sports ProgramThis term we have organized a sports coach from Athletics Australia to run a 6 week program during after school care. Book in for Friday’s to join in on the fun! Taryn
