Recognizing local businessesA s president of the Mount

Pleasant Business asso-ciation, welcome to 2011

Mount Pleasant Entrepreneur & Business Expo!

The Mount Pleasant Business Association (MPBA) was estab-lished in 1992 to bring together businesses in our locale for mutually valuable purposes. As leader in the promotion and enhancement of the Mount Pleasant Business community, MPBA provides its members with information, advocacy, education and networking based on a foundation of integ-rity, social responsibility and excellence.

We are extremely proud to be partnering this year with the Town of Mount Pleasant to present the first Entrepre-neur and Business Expo. We are equally proud to have the Moultrie News, our hometown newspaper, as our sponsor. Our

partnership has allowed us to join together in our common goal to seek opportunities to support our local business com-munity that will help foster a sustainable local economy. This event was designed to allow an existing or aspiring business to network with other businesses and service provid-ers that can help start or grow business, thus creating jobs. The Expo will bring recognition to the Town of Mount Pleas-ant and the Mount Pleasant Business Association while we position our collective efforts as the premier small business and networking event in the Charleston area.

Thank you for your participa-tion in today’s events.

A healthy and vibrant business communityD ear residents, entre-

preneurs and business partners,

It is with great pleasure that I welcome you to our inaugural Entrepreneur and Business Expo.

Mount Pleasant is indeed a great place to incubate promis-ing ideas, foster a new venture, or develop an existing business.

We, at the Town of Mount Pleasant, have taken great steps towards creating a healthy and vibrant business community.

Our new business seminars implemented this summer have been a great success.

Our new business incubator is now open and welcoming creative ventures in a dynamic and proactive environment.

Our first business expo wel-comes keynote speaker Clay Clark and offers cost effective ways to promote your busi-ness, new trends in networking and personal and professional development.

None of this could have been possible without the partner-ship and synergy existing between the Town of Mount Pleasant, the Mount Pleasant Business Association and the Moultrie News.

I would like to acknowledge and congratulate these two entities for their long-standing commitment to our business community and to the town of Mount Pleasant.

I invite you to take a closer look at our business projects. Take a seminar, visit our new business incubator and im-merse yourself in our business culture.

Discover why Mount Pleas-ant was named “One of the Best Cities for Start Ups” by Business Week and “One of the Best Places to Live” by Money Magazine.

Best regards,

Mayor Billy SwailsTown of Mount Pleasant

Starbucks, QuikTrip, UPS, Disney, the Henry Ford success story, the writ-ings of Napoleon Hill, Yum Brands, the Andrew Carnegie success story and countless others.

Clark has written and produced nu-merous training materials for organiza-tions all over the country.

Hidden strengths that create dramatic results

A lso featured will be John Carroll. John Earl Carroll is a national award-winning columnist,

author, consultant, executive coach and serial entrepreneur.

He strategically connects hidden strengths that create dramatically im-proved results and profits for his clients.

Carroll is one of only 19 professionals on the planet recognized by peers for his work consulting with emerging growth companies.

Carroll has worked with sales profes-sionals, managers and entrepreneurs in businesses, trade groups and charitable organizations.

An accomplished and engaging speaker, he has been internationally recognized for sales and facilitation excellence.

His approaches have attracted at-tention around the planet, including articles appearing in Chief Executive China magazine.

A national award-winning columnist, Carroll is also the author of Sales Illus-trated: 68 Sales Lessons from Everyday Life (available in three languages). His columns have appeared regularly in the Charleston Regional Business Journal and the Catholic Miscellany.

With firsthand experience in manufac-turing, distribution and service indus-tries, he is a true entrepreneur, having launched or helped to launch six organi-zations, one of which was recognized in

the Emerging 10, the 10 fastest growing businesses in the Charleston region. Carroll is also the first layperson to serve on the Clergy Personnel Advisory Board of the Catholic Diocese of Charleston. He currently serves as board chair for Camp Rise Above, a camp for children with special medical needs. He is a founding board member of Lowcoun-try Local First and has served as board president of the Dee Norton Lowcountry Children’s Center and president of the Mount Pleasant Business Association. He is the father of two grown daughters and lives in Mount Pleasant, with his wife Lori.

Key elements•Strategy, systems and people - When

an organization has all three working in alignment with a clear focus on its cus-tomer, it is likely to grow and prosper. These are the three key areas where Un-limited Performance works with client organizations:

•Strategy - Facilitate development of a specific direction over the long-term,

create short-term implementation plansto accomplish the larger goals and hold people accountable for activities in sup-port of those plans.

•Systems - Look at current processes to evaluate how consistent they are withthe organization’s strategy. From a lead-ership perspective, how consistent is thewalk with the talk? From a sales and op-erations perspective, why would some-one want to do business with us? From an associate’s perspective, why would someone want to come to work with us?

•People - Work to develop the best in each person throughout the organization, focusing on the obstacles that preventgreater productivity and more satisfying results. By helping to identify and remove those obstacles, people are better able togrow in their value to the organization and create wealth, both for themselves and the organization.

Carroll’s approach revolves around a simple idea: improving organizational and individual performance. He tailors solutions to the existing talents and re-sources within the organization to im-prove the client’s condition.

John Carroll, executive coach
