FROM THE PRINCIPAL
Dear Parents and Friends,
A group of 5 and 6 students have published their first edition of Old School- Centenary News. The group meets weekly, after school under the guidance of parent Mrs Lesterhuis. Old School– is a interesting article full of history and fun facts.
Congratulations to the Interschool Swimming Team for striving to do their best and demonstrating excellent sportsmanship at the recent carnival It was pleasing to see the team in Mount Claremont bathers. They looked fabulous! Special thanks Mr Staples and parents coaches for your support.
SCHOOL COUNCIL
Damon Buckley nomination as parent representative has been accepted for the school council. His family includes wife Robyn and children Willem in Year 4 and Marlise in Kindy. Damon has 20 years of professional experience in the commodity, finance, resources and energy sectors.
ANZAC DAY SERVICE
The school community and friends are invited to attend the school’s ANZAC Service this Friday commencing at 9:00am. Students from each class have been selected to make a speech or lay a wreath. The choir will also be singing and we are fortunate to have a piper play at our service. At Mount Claremont Primary School it is a tradition to make wreaths from flowers and greenery pro-vided by students and parents. Parents and guests are welcome to lay a per-sonal wreath during the ceremony.
Please take the flowers to the staffroom by 8:30am and parent volunteers will be required to make the wreaths. Parents, please pop in to the staffroom to see if you can be of assistance.
ON ENTRY ASSESSMENT
In pre-primary all students in public schools participate in the Literacy and Nu-meracy On Entry Assessment during weeks 3 and 6 of term 1. The assess-ment assists the school to plan teaching and learning programs for students. Students in pre-primary will bring home their Literacy and Numeracy Summary Report today.
The Easter holiday break falls with in this vacation period. Have a safe and enjoyable break. Please keep watch over our school and report any damage, vandalism or suspicious behaviour to School Watch.

Interschool Swimming Carnival
Last Wednesday MCPS participated in the Interschool Swimming Carnival at the HBF Stadium indoor pool. It was a tremendously exciting morning packed full of highly competitive and close races. As always our students acquit-ted themselves brilliantly over the entire carnival. There were many fantastic performances in the pool that ac-companied the wonderful spirit and sportsmanship that is always associated with our school. Al students who competed should be extremely proud of their efforts!
Overall Shield - Cottesloe: 150, Freshwater Bay: 140, Mosman Park: 98, Jolimont: 76, Mt Claremont: 60, Holly-wood: 49
Meritorious Shield- Freshwater Bay: 222, Jolimont: 185, Mosman Park: 161, Mt Claremont: 155, Cottesloe: 150, Hollywood: 123
Once again I'd like to thank Sam Campbell and Paul Newsome for their great efforts at swim training and for helping to prepare our students for the carnivals. It was clear that the students gained a lot over the course of the swim program.
Duathlon Workshop
A couple of weeks ago we were lucky to have the visit of two professional athletes for a duathlon training work-shop. Thank you to both Renee Baker and Sarah Jamieson (3 time Olympian) for coming to Mt Claremont PS and giving their expertise knowledge and training tips to our own young budding athletes. Well done to those who also competed in the Duathlon event held at Perry Lakes over the weekend.
Kind regards,

A note from the Community Health Nurse
Welcome to the new school year. My name is Anne Hardy and I am the Community Health Nurse who visits your school. Community Health Nurses work in schools to promote healthy development and wellbeing so students may reach their full potential. A major part of my work is focused on early intervention and the School Entry Health Assess-ment program. Community Health Nurses serve as a health contact point for children and their families, providing information, assessment, health counseling and referral. The services provided are free and confidential.
If you have a concern about your child’s health or development, please contact me on 0404 823 680.
Colds
Upper respiratory tract infections or colds are everywhere, especially in winter, so it is almost impossible to stop children from catching them. Her are some points which may help:
Teach your child to cover his/her nose and mouth when coughing or sneezing, and to wash hands straight afterwards.
Hands should be washed after blowing noses and before eating.
Use tissues once and then throw them in the bin. (Avoid using handkerchiefs.)
Keep your child home from school if he/she has a cold/cough/fever/pain.
Make sure that your children eat a balanced diet of plenty of healthy foods.
Keep children away from smoke – it irritates their eyes and nasal passages, making it more likely that they will catch a cold.
What to do if your child gets a cold
No treatment will cure a cold or make it go away more quickly, but you can help your child feel more comfortable.
Congratulations Hayden Hayden competed in the WA Karate Federation State Championships held last week in Joondalup. Congratulations on becoming the State Champion for boys 10 years for 2017. What a great achievement!
Library Notice
Sadly, on Monday the 27th March in the early hours of the morning, a fire broke out at Atwell College. The damage has been estimated to be around the $1million mark with the Library sustaining signifi-cant damage to the collection and internal structures. The Library support and information group(LIFT) of which I am a member has asked if as a group, we would be able to provide support to the school by donating any Book Club rewards earned but not yet re-deemed. Thanks to the generosity of our students and families, we have to date earned $285 which can be transferred to Atwell to assist with the purchase of new books. Scholastic are assisting schools with transfers and are also organising their own donation to Atwell. Thank you to Mrs Oakes for supporting this initiative by LIFT and along with our donation also send our best wishes to Atwell College and the Library staff for a speedy transition back to normality. EASTER HAT PARADE
To celebrate the end of the term the Red Kindy group had an Easter Hat Parade. There were traditional Easter bonnets, hats with superheroes, bunny rabbit ears and hats with dinosaurs. We had a great turn out by parents and appreciate the enormous effort they went to.
A big congratulations to Benji and Jack for winning first and second place in the parade.
