Question 1

βλέπει τὸν Ἰησοῦν

ἐρχόμενον πρὸς αὐτόν

καὶ λέγει·

ἴδε ὁ ἀμνὸς τοῦ θεοῦ

ὁ αἴρων

τὴν ἁμαρτίαν τοῦ κόσμου.

He sees Jesus

coming toward him

and says,

“Behold the lamb of God,

the one who is taking

away

the sin of the world.”

Περιπατῶν δὲ

παρὰ τὴν θάλασσαν

τῆς Γαλιλαίας

εἶδεν δύο ἀδελφούς,

Σίμωνα

τὸν λεγόμενον Πέτρον

καὶ Ἀνδρέαν

τὸν ἀδελφὸν αὐτοῦ,

βάλλοντας ἀμφίβληστρον

εἰς τὴν θάλασσαν.

But while walking around

beside the Sea

of Galilee,

he saw two brothers,

Simon,

the one being called Peter,

and Andrew

his brother,

while they were casting a net

into the sea.

Question 6

καὶ ἔρχονται

φέροντες

πρὸς αὐτὸν

παραλυτικὸν

αἰρόμενον

ὑπὸ τεσσάρων.

But having heard

Herod was saying,

“Whom I beheaded,

John,

he has been raised!”

Question 7

ὁ ἔχων τὰς ἐντολάς μου

καὶ τηρῶν αὐτὰς

ἐκεῖνός ἐστιν

ὁ ἀγαπῶν με·

ὁ δὲ ἀγαπῶν με

ἀγαπηθήσεται

ὑπὸ τοῦ πατρός μου,

κἀγὼ ἀγαπήσω αὐτόν.

The one having my

commandments

and keeping them –

that one is

the one who is loving me;

and the one loving me

will be loved

by my father,

and I will love him.

οἱ ἰδόντες αὐτὸν

περιπατοῦντα

ἐπὶ τῆς θαλάσσης

ἔδοξαν ὅτι

φάντασμά ἐστιν.

The ones who saw him

walking

on the sea

they thought that

he is a ghost.

Question 9a

Ὁ δεχόμενος

ὑμᾶς

ἐμὲ δέχεται,

καὶ ὁ ἐμὲ δεχόμενος

δέχεται

τὸν ἀποστείλαντά με.

The one who is receiving

you

is receiving me,

and the one receiving me

is receiving

the one who sent me.

ὁ δεχόμενος

προφήτην

εἰς ὄνομα προφήτου

μισθὸν προφήτου λήμψεται,

καὶ ὁ δεχόμενος

δίκαιον

εἰς ὄνομα δικαίου

μισθὸν δικαίου λήμψεται.

The one who receives

a prophet

in the name of a prophet will

receive a prophet’s reward,

and the one who is receiving

a righteous person

in the name of a righteous

person

will receive a righteous

person’s reward.

Question 10

ὅτε δὲ ἐπίστευσαν

τῷ Φιλίππῳ

εὐαγγελιζομένῳ

περὶ τῆς βασιλείας

τοῦ θεοῦ

καὶ τοῦ ὀνόματος

Ἰησοῦ Χριστοῦ,

ἐβαπτίζοντο

ἄνδρες τε καὶ γυναῖκες.

But when they believed

Philip

proclaiming good news

about the Kingdom

of God

and the name

of Jesus Christ,

they were being baptized,

both men and women.

οἱ ἕπτα

οἱ πορευθέντες

περὶ τὴν γῆν

πολλὰς ἡμέρας

ἀπεκτάνθησαν

ἐν μεγάλῳ πυρὶ

ἐρχόμενοι

ἀπὸ τῶν οὐρανῶν

πρὸς τοὺς οἴκους αὐτῶν.

The seven

who went

around the earth

for many days

were killed

in a great fire while

while coming

from the heavens

to their homes.

οἱ φαγόντες

τε καὶ πιόντες

μετὰ τοῦ κυρίου

αὐτῶν

ζῶντος

ἐχάρησαν

ἰδόντες

τὸν ἐγερθέντα

ἐκ τῶν νεκρῶν.

The ones who ate

and also drank

with the lord

their

living

they rejoiced

having seen

the one who was raised

from the dead.

καὶ ἐκάλεσεν Ἀδὰμ

τὸ ὄνομα τῆς γυναικὸς

αὐτοῦ

Ζωὴ

ὅτι αὕτη μήτηρ

πάντων τῶν ζώντων.

And Adam called

the name of the wife

of him

“Life”

because she is the mother

of all of the living.

Question 14

εἶπεν αὐτῷ·

σὺ εἶ ὁ ἀνὴρ

ὁ λαλήσας

πρὸς τὴν γυναῖκα;

καὶ εἶπεν ὁ ἄγγελος· ἐγώ.

He said to him

“Are you the man

the one who spoke

to the woman?”

And the angel said, “I (am).”

Question 15

καὶ εἶπεν ὁ θεὸς τῷ Νῶε

καὶ τοῖς υἱοῖς αὐτοῦ

μετʼ αὐτοῦ λέγων·

ἐγὼ ἰδοὺ ἀνίστημι

τὴν διαθήκην μου

ὑμῖν

καὶ τῷ σπέρματι ὑμῶν

μεθʼ ὑμᾶς

καὶ πάσῃ ψυχῇ

τῇ ζώσῃ μεθʼ ὑμῶν …

ὅσα μεθʼ ὑμῶν ἀπὸ

πάντων τῶν ἐξελθόντων ἐκ

τῆς κιβωτοῦ.

And God spoke to Noah

and to his sons

with him, saying,

“Behold I am establishing

my covenant

with you

and with your descendants

after you

and with every

soul that lives with you …

as many as came with you

out from the ark

εἰ οὖν ὑμεῖς οἴδατε

πονηροὶ ὄντες

δόματα ἀγαθὰ διδόναι

τοῖς τέκνοις ὑμῶν

πόσῳ μᾶλλον

ὁ πατὴρ ὑμῶν

ὁ ἐν τοῖς οὐρανοῖς

δώσει

ἀγαθὰ

τοῖς αἰτοῦσιν

αὐτόν;

Therefore, if you know

being evil

to give good gifts

to your children,

how much more

your father

the one who is in heaven

he will give

good things

to the ones who ask

him?

Question 17

Ὁ ἄνωθεν ἐρχόμενος

ἐπάνω πάντων ἐστίν·

ὁ ὢν

ἐκ τῆς γῆς

ἐκ τῆς γῆς ἐστιν

καὶ λαλεῖ

ἐκ τῆς γῆς.

The one coming from above

is above all;

the one who is

from the earth

is from the earth

and he is speaking

from the earth.

Question 18

καὶ οἱ γραμματεῖς

οἱ καταβάντες

ἀπὸ Ἱεροσολύμων

ἔλεγον ὅτι

Βεελζεβοὺλ ἔχει

καὶ [ἔλεγον] ὅτι

ἐκβάλλει τὰ δαιμόνια

ἐν τῷ ἄρχοντι

τῶν δαιμονίων.

And the scribes

who came down

from Jerusalem

they were saying that

he has Beelzebul

and [they were saying] that

he is casting out demons

by the ruler

of the demons.

Question 19a

εἶπεν αὐτῇ ὁ Ἰησοῦς·

ἐγώ εἰμι ἡ ἀνάστασις

καὶ ἡ ζωή·

ὁ πιστεύων εἰς ἐμὲ

κἂν ἀποθάνῃ

ζήσεται,

καὶ πᾶς ὁ ζῶν

καὶ πιστεύων εἰς ἐμὲ

οὐ μὴ ἀποθάνῃ

εἰς τὸν αἰῶνα·

πιστεύεις τοῦτο;

Jesus said to her,

I am the resurrection

and the life;

the one who believes in me,

even though he might die

he will live

and everyone who is living

and believing in me

he will certainly not die

for ever

Do you believe this?”

Question 19b

λέγει αὐτῷ·

ναί, κύριε,

ἐγὼ πεπίστευκα ὅτι

σὺ εἶ ὁ Χριστὸς

ὁ υἱὸς τοῦ θεοῦ

ὁ ἐσχόμενος.

εἰς τὸν κόσμον

She is saying to him,

Yes, Lord,

I have believed that

you are the Christ,

the Son of God,

the one who is coming

into the world.

Question 20a

ὁ μὴ τιμῶν

τὸν υἱὸν

οὐ τιμᾶ

τὸν πατέρα

τὸν πέμψαντα

αὐτόν.

The one not honouring

the Son

is not honouring

the Father

who sent

him.

Question 20b

Ἀμὴν ἀμὴν λέγω ὑμῖν ὅτι

ὁ τὸν λόγον μου ἀκούων

καὶ πιστεύων

τῷ πέμψαντί με

ἔχει ζωὴν αἰώνιον

καὶ οὐκ ἔρχεται

εἰς κρίσιν

ἀλλὰ μεταβέβηκεν

ἐκ τοῦ θανάτου

εἰς τὴν ζωήν.

Truly, truly I say to you that

the one hearing my word

and believing

the one who sent me

has eternal life

and is not going

into judgment

but instead has crossed over

from death

into life.

Question 20c

ἀμὴν ἀμὴν λέγω ὑμῖν ὅτι

ἔρχεται ὥρα

καὶ νῦν ἐστιν

ὅτε οἱ νεκροὶ ἀκούσουσιν

τῆς φωνῆς

τοῦ υἱοῦ τοῦ θεοῦ

καὶ οἱ ἀκούσαντες

ζήσουσιν.

Truly, truly I say to you that

an hour is coming

and now is

when the dead will hear

the voice

of the Son of God,

and the ones hearing

they will live.
