• Check for understand:• 1-What is motion?• 2-What is distance? How is it

measured?• 3-three children live in the

same street: Lara lives west to Sara. Sara lives east to Tala. Tala lives west to Lara. Draw a map for their street.

Ch.9, Lesson 1Motion and Speed

• You can say that something has moved if it has changed position.

• is the location of an object.

When object started at one end and stopped at another it changed position.

Ch.9, Lesson 1Motion and Speed

• You can describe an object’s position by comparing it with the position of other objects.

• You can use the words:• Above• Below• Left• Right• behind

Ch.9, Lesson 1Motion and Speed

• How can we measure motion?

• Vocabulary:PositionDistanceMotionspeed

- Motion can be fast or slow.

Distance

-It is how far an object is from one position to another.Measuring the length between starting position and ending position give you the distance.- Measured by: Ruler & Measuring tape

- Units: Cm, meters & kilometers.

How do we measure motion?

Ch.9, Lesson 1Motion and Speed

• Some motions are very slow like the moving of snail.

Some motions are fast like cheetah.

A cheetah runs faster than a person.

Ch.9, Lesson 1Motion and Speed

• The cheetah has a greater speed.

• Is how fast an object moves over a certain distance.

Vocabulary:PositionDistanceMotionspeed

speed.

-It is the distance an object moves in a certain time.

Speed = Distance/Time So to measure speed you need to measure time and distance.

13

Ch.9, Lesson 1Motion and Speed

• Fast moving objects go long distance in a short period of time.

• ( 5 meters in 5 minutes)• Slow moving objects

takes longer to travel the same distance.

( 5 meters in 10 minutes)

• What do Maps tell you?

• is a flat drawing, it shows position of things.

• To read a map you need to use directions.

• North, South• East, West

Ch.9, Lesson 1Motion and Speed

• Every map shows directions below, to help you find places.

• Map also has a key, to tell what the symbols stand for.

• Map also has a Scale, to help you Measure the real Distances between places.
