District Missionary Mother Lucille B. Miles

The Life of...........

District Missionary Lucille B. Miles was born December 13, 1922 to the late Douglas and Elizabeth Carlos in Camden, South Carolina. Her mother died when she was seven years old, and her father when she was nine. She was raised by her grandmoth-er Missy Carlos.

She had an eight grade education and loved helping people. She use to stay in the house helping her sick uncle when the others were outside playing. She was always told the Lord was going to bless her.

Mother Miles relocated to Richmond, VA where she later was united in Holy Matrimony to the late John Miles Sr. to this union eight children were born. Six sons John Jr., Jesse, James, and Jerry which are all deceased; Curtis, Supt. Larry C., two daughters, Juanita, and Marqueta.

Mother Miles worked two and three jobs to help make ends meet. She loved to read her Bible, when she would come home late at night not wanting to disturbed anyone she would get a flash light and get under the covers and read.

She loved to fast and pray; she even fasted the whole nine months she was carrying Supt. Miles and he turned out to be the largest of her children and during her fasting and praying God showed her he would be a great preacher.

Mother Miles returned to school to further her education, she later received an Honorary Doctoral Degree in Divinity from Nor-folk Seminary. She had such great love for helping people that she opened several businesses, The Helping Hand Bargin Store and The Helping Hand Home For Adults one in New Kent, VA and one in Richmond, VA where she was affectionately called Moma Miles.

District Missionary Miles was saved for over sixty-four years and have held many positions in the church. She has been District Missionary for over forty years. Mother Miles has witnessed to many many people who were saved and delivered for Christ. One of her favorite subjects was Holiness or Hell. She loved the book of Revelation. Mother Miles was a woman of great great faith. She would say if you asked God for something and you didn’t get it today you look for it the next day and next until you got it because there was nothing to hard for God.

She taught her children to never refuse prayer, to be respectful. Mother said there was no such word as can’t, if others could do it so could you; and there was no one better than you maybe better off but not better than. Mother Miles had many spiritual children that she encouraged and taught. She had such a sweet way of correcting you that you couldn’t get angry with her.

She would say you only had one soul and you couldn’t change it like you changed your clothes and you should get in a hurry for the Lord. One young man said she witnessed to him up under the street lights telling him about Hell fire.

District Missionary Lucille B. Miles took her final flight with a one way ticket Destination Glory on Monday August 25, 2014 surrounded by her loving and devoted family. She was preceeded in death by her husband John Miles Sr, sons, John Jr., Jesse, James, and Jerry and grandsons, Aaron Jr., and Curtis Deshawn. She leaves to carry on her legacy, four devoted children, two daughters Juanita M. Sherman (Aaron), Marqueta Porter, two sons Supt. Larry C. Miles, Sr. (Terraine), and a special care giving son Curtis T. Miles, also one devoted sister Margaret DuBose (Sandford), brother-in-law Cain Mylez (Denise). Thirteen grand-children, 16 great grandchildren. A devoted friend and traveling companion State President of Missions Department Evang.
