They are identified in a forum that brings experience and current methodology together to address problems that relate to the specific roles of the course participants. Long-range and short-range problem-solving strategies, directed toward increasing the scope of curriculum options and expanding the broad applicability of instructional resources, are addressed in terms of current situational models. E7033 – Managing Change - (3 credit hours) Course Description: This course focuses on concepts and strategies for managing change in educational, human services, and business settings. Special consideration is given to the recognition of human diversity and strategies that empower both individuals and the organization. Processes, procedures, and skills for change are presented in terms of situational

EED520-Civil Rights and Social Justice: Issues for Education (3 credits) (formerly ED520) This course is an historical review of the civil rights movement from the 1954 killing of 14 years old Emmett Till in Mississippi through the mid-80’s with the election of the first Black mayor of Chicago, Harold Washington. It is designed to encourage educators, counselors, trainers, and integrated studies majors to understand the context and condition under which African Americans children live.

Topics covered include desegregation of our nation’s public schools, the tactics of

nonviolence, the role of young people in the movement, the struggles for the right to vote, the relationship between protest and legislative action, affirmative action, the 1967 uprising in Detroit which was the largest civil disorder of it’s kind until the Los Angeles riots, the founding of the Black Panther party, the rise and transformation of Malcolm X, the connections between the in Vietnam and the problems of poverty in the United States, and the call for Black Power.

Participants view the tapes from the award-winning series Eyes on the Prize and discuss the societal implications of the civil rights movement. Social justice and social responsibility are the key concepts which serve as a model for action. Participants create curriculum resources which can empower teachers and students. (5A)

ED622 Ethical Dilemmas of the Twenty-First Century This course addresses the nature of ethical dilemmas: namely, the tension that arises when two or more values compete for our attention or allegiance in particular situations (such as truth vs. loyalty, short term vs. long term goals, justice vs. mercy, or self vs. society). More particularly, the course will focus on the kinds of dilemmas which surface in professional life and social institutions. Course format will include

considerations and implications. E7233 – Organization Communication Systems - (3 credit hours) Course Description: This course focuses on effective communication in organizations. This course will include relevant theories, technologies, leadership, teamwork, diversity, global organizations, and ethics. In addition to learning about issues embedded in organizational communication systems, students will complete a 7-week internship. E7338 – Multicultural Education in the 21st Century - (3 credit hours)

Course Description: This course provides an examination of educational issues pertinent to administration within the context of the current demographic realities found within the United States. Focus is on the dimensions of diversity, the development and importance of an equitable curriculum and its impact on students and adults.
