BANDON — Political Philosophy Part III, a discussion with Jason Kropsky, Ph.D. will take place from 2-3:30 pm. Thursday, Feb. 13, at the Bandon Public Library, 1204 11th St. SW.

What is the merit of governance? Civil disobedience? Are there times you've thought the law is so bad maybe it should be broken, as has been the case with luminary figures, such as Thoreau, Ghandi and Martin Luther King, Jr.? How might that look? What would be lost?

Together, participants will read and discuss the "Letter from the Birmingham Jail." When imprisoned as a participant in nonviolent demonstrations against segregation, Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr., wrote in longhand his response to a public statement of concern and caution issued by eight white reli-gious leaders of the South.

Everyone is welcome to this thoughtful and engaging dis-cussion exploring political philosophy.

BANDON — Are Oregonians ready for universal health care? A free presentation on the topic will be held at 2 p.m., Sunday, Feb. 16, at the Bandon Public Library's Sprague Community Room, 1202 11th St. SW.

Oregon Senate Bill 770 begins: “The Task Force on Universal Health Care is established to recommend the design of the Health Care for All Oregon Plan, a universal health care system, administered by the Health Care for All Oregon Board, that is equitable, affordable and comprehen-sive, provides high quality health care and is publicly funded and available to every individual residing in Oregon.”

Oregon businessmen Warren George and Ron Loe spon-sored a poll by the Seattle-based public opinion research firm

Elway Research. The poll sampled registered voters in every Oregon State House district. The poll asked: Are Oregonians ready for universal health care?

According to the poll, 62% of respondents would likely support a new health tax that would replace for-profit private insurance.

The poll revealed much more and anyone interested is invited to hear about it on Feb. 16. Warren George will dis-cuss the survey’s findings and answer questions about univer-sal health care financing.

The event is sponsored by the Bandon Chapter of Health Care for All Oregon.

Good Earth is located at the end of Eighth Court Southwest and is a peaceful place where gardeners young and old grow organic vegetables, fruit and flowers.
