Both Meigs County and South Greene have records of 10 wins and one loss. You can hear Fri- day night’s game live on WYXI Radio, FM-94.5. The broadcast starts at 6:30 p.m. The McMinn County High School Cherokees are out of the running. They lost to Bearden, 23 to 6, in the opening round of the playoffs. Virginia Ann Croft Lankford, age 73, of Athens, died last

Thursday at Starr Regional Medical Center. At her request there

will be no formal visitation or funeral service. Ziegler Funeral

Home is in charge of arrangements.

Mary Louise Ricci Zimmer, age 91, of Athens, died Friday. She was a native of Pittsburgh, PA. She was associated with 1st

National Bank in Athens for 30 years in the Loan Department.

Funeral services will be at 7 p.m. Tuesday at Smith Funeral

Home, with visitation from 4:30 to 6:30 p.m.

Peggy Dow, who grew up in Athens and became a movie star in

Hollywood, returned home this past Friday and attended a special

screening of the film, “Harvey,” in which she co-starred with

Jimmy Stewart. Her visit to Athens was part of the McMinn

County Bicentennial Celebration. The photo below shows Peggy with Richard and Elaine Newman of Athens. The free screening of

the movie, followed by a question and answer session with Ms.

Dow, took place at The Athens Movie Palace.

Movie Star Returns Home

MORE CHRISTMAS PARADE DATES The Etowah Christmas Parade will be held on Thursday, De-

cember 5th, at 7 p.m. in downtown Etowah. Civic organizations,

churches, and clubs who would like to enter floats may pick up

applications from the Etowah Chamber of Commerce or at the

L&N Depot Museum. Registration deadline is December 1st.

The Niota Christmas Parade will be Saturday, December 7th,

at 2 p.m. (The rain date will be Sunday, Dec. 8th, at 2 p.m.) The

200th Year celebration theme is “Through the Years.” The entry

fee is $10. All entries are welcome. For more information, call

Tonya Moore at 506-3125.

The Athens Christmas Parade will be on Saturday, November 30th, this year, starting at 5:30 p.m. The parade will be a part of

the Old Fashioned Christmas celebration in Downtown Athens

that day.
