Rules of FramingDetailed explanationLook for horizontal and vertical lines in the frame. Make sure the horizontals are level, and the verticals are straight up and down (unless of course you're purposely going for a titled effect.Headroom, looking room, and leading room. These terms refer to the amount of room in the frame which is purposefully left empty.

The rules of thirdDetailed explanationThe rule of thirds. This rule divides the frame into nine sections, as in the first frame below. Points of interest should occur at 1/3 or 2/3 of the way up the frame, rather than in the centre. Depending on where the object is in the shot the ‘lines’ emphasize what is in the certain part of the grid and makes thing stand out as you can see them clearly.
How am I used in a film?Aligning a subject with the guidelines and their intersection points placing the horizon on the top or bottomline.
