A democratic, rank-and-file-led union that willstand up and fight back to defend our members. We will democratize chapter meetings, district meetings, and
delegate assemblies so every members voice can be heard. We will show up to schools to support chapters that challenge
abusive administrators.
An undemocratic, top-down union that hasfailed to organize or defend its members.
A union that will fight for smaller class sizes, improved social services, a rich curriculum andan end to budget cuts. Our working conditions are ourstudents learning conditions. We will fight for a contract that
improves both.
A union that has aligned itself with theforces attacking public education and is tooeager to embrace reforms that are bad forteaching and learning.
A union that will inform its members about thedangers of corporate education reform. We willhelp chapters and districts organize discussions and forums
about why and how public education is under attack.
A union that supports the ideas of wealthy, corporate education reform groups, such asbar exams for teachers, the Common CoreStandards, and one-size-fits-all evaluationrubrics.
A union that demands the DOE involve
educators and community members in all policydecisions. We will demand an end to mayoral control andfight for democratic school governance.
A union that has repeatedly supported
mayoral control of schools, over theobjections of educators and communitymembers.
A union that encourages the growth of strongchapters and forges real solidarity with thecommunities we serve. We will hold joint rallies, pickets, and job actions with parents, students, other labor unions, and
community members.
A union that relies too heavily on lobbying, lawsuits, back-room deals, and politicians.
