NB : Bulls can act as asymptomatic carrier (Survive in the glandular crypts of the prepuce. They are structurally unusal in that they possess a microcapsule of S Layer which consists of high weight molecular protein confers resistance to phagocytosis and enhance survival in the genital tract ) also the MO can persist in the vagina for longer period.Pathogenesis by means of hematogenous route Signs of disease include :- 1-Temporary infertility associated with early embryonic death 2- Return to estrus at irregular periods 3-Occasionally sporadic abortion PM Lesions Placenta Gross ( Macroscopic findings ) Edema of intercotyledonary area(between fetal membranes and uterine mucosa) with coagulative necrosis between fetal and maternal portions of the placentome with fewer organisms in the desquamated chorionic epithelial cells Fetal lesions are non-specific Ovine campylobacteriosis differ in the following points 1-The organisms are transmitted by ingestion and abortions occur in outbreaks. Infection of the pregnant uterus results in late-term abortion or the birth of live, but sick lambs. 2-characterized by late abortion 3-PM lesions in the fetus is hepatic necrosis (Multifocal ) Microscopically, 'chorioallantois is infiltrated by a mixture of cells, mainly neutrophils. Campylobacter organisms are abundant among the inflammatory cells.
