“Reach for the Stars”
Dear Parents & Care Givers,
I trust all Mothers and Grandmothers were
spoiled and felt very special on Mother’s Day
over the weekend. We look forward to seeing
you and showing our appreciation for all that
you do this Friday at our Mother’s Day High
Tea, beginning at 2pm in the Art room.
From the Principal, Miss Sarah Perrett
YSSSA Football & Netball Carnival
The YSSSA Football & Netball Carnival for
Years 3-6 students will occur on Friday 8th
June at the Sports Grounds in Southern
Cross. In the coming weeks students will
choose the sport they would like to play.
If you are able to assist in umpiring, scoring
or coaching a football or netball team please
let the front office know.
Permission slips and notes with more
information regarding the day will be sent
home in the coming weeks.
NAPLAN
Today is the first day of the NAPLAN
assessment for students in Years 3 and 5
with the remainder occurring tomorrow and
Thursday. These assessments provide a
valuable snapshot of how our students
compare against other schools, the state and
Australia. I congratulate the students for the
serious manner in which they have applied
themselves. We look forward to finding out
the results later in the year.
Hot Lunches
Students may bring
lunches from home that
require warming up in the
pie warmer on Mondays
and Wednesdays. Food is
to be brought in a suitable container or
wrapped in alfoil with students’ name on it. To
assist the school in providing a safe
environment, please consider the contents of
your child’s lunch box by avoiding food that
contain nuts.
Last week the sandpit outside the staffroom
was completed. We thank BMW for their
assistance with this. The students have
enjoyed spending recess and lunch in the
Sandpit
Attendance
Studies show that students who have poor
attendance rates in Pre Primary carry this
through into secondary schooling. The
School Education Act 1999 clearly states
‘students must attend school every day
that a school is open for instruction’. This
means that days off for birthdays, shopping,
family holidays, or rest days are not legitimate
reasons to not attend.
I congratulate the students who have regular
attendance (90% or greater) so far for this
Semester. I also thank the families of these
students for ensuring your child comes to
school every day and for providing written
evidence when they are absent.
Last week I attended the Briefing for
Principal’s in the Wheatbelt Education
Region. The two days offered opportunities to
network with other Principals, as well as hear
from key speakers. I look forward to sharing
what I learnt with staff this term.

Birthday Wishes to:
Ethan Glass 22nd May 9 Years
Lucy Birtles 28th May 9 Years
Award Winners:
Term Two Week One
Clair Harvey: for her excellent results in her whole number maths test.
Jordan Edwards: for learning all the letter sounds and beginning to blend and segment words.
In the Junior Room, Information and Communications Technology (ICT) is integrated across learning areas.
Specifically, the students use a range of programs to develop their ICT skills. These include:
Mathletics: This program is used to support and reinforce learning in Mathematics. Students develop their abil-
ity to use the mouse and become familiar with the number keys on the right side of the keyboard.
Microsoft Word: Students publish documents on Word which develops their typing skills. They are learning
about the different functions within Word and are beginning to change the aesthetics of their document, as
well as adding shapes or pictures.
IPads: IPads are used to search for information and to take photographs. Various Apps are used to support
learning of the curriculum requirements, particularly in Digital Technologies
Internet: Students are learning how to use a search engine to get specific information to answer questions.
They recently used Google to locate information about their chosen animal for their information report.
Students were taught how to locate reliable and accurate information which was relevant to their question
or purpose.
Internet Safety: As part of our Health program, the students will learn about online safety in the coming weeks.
What you can do at home: Provide opportunities for your child/ren to use a desktop computer or laptop as this
will further develop their typing skills as they will become more familiar with the location of each key on the
keyboard.
Above: Year 1 and 2 students using a program called Popplet to brainstorm information they knew about
their chosen animal for their information report.
Food Technology in the Senior Room
This term in D & T we are covering food technology, with the first few lessons
on food safety and hygiene; so what better way to learn about food
preparation than to spoil our mothers and
grandmothers with a scrumptious high tea! The
students have been making treats since the beginning
of term with a huge emphasis on cleanliness of
anything coming into contact with ingredients and the
final products. We are looking forward to spoiling all
mothers and grandmothers on Friday 18th , 2pm in the
Art Room– We hope to see you there!

About the Show:
This is the story of Bambert – an impossibly small man with an enormous love for writing. Tucked away in his quiet attic, his only companions are the characters he has created in his stories. And then one day, Bambert decides to set his stories free, to send them out into the world on little balloons, in the hope that they will find a home. The stories contain instructions: whoev-er finds them is to return them to Bambert with a stamp from wherever they landed, so he knows where they should be set. But as each day passes, and no stories return, Bambert’s hope begins to fade.
Will his stories ever find a home?
Bambert’s Book of Lost Stories brings together some of Australia’s most creative theatrical minds to realise this exquisite tale. In turn joyous and melancholy, this new production reminds us of how stories connect us to the world and ultimately, of the power of kindness.
