A course can be mapped and then built directly into six discrete activities blocks –AS TIME PERMITS!Hide items until they are ready for students.

You can quickly add existing content and activities (in any file format) to the course.

Novice instructors are prompted to include all aspects  of good instruction.

Experienced instructors have the ability to be innovative and creative.

Multiple pathways through the materials are available for both students and instructors. Traditional, PBL, Social etc.

The template is designed promote learning effectiveness …but control resides with you!

News forum –aka “Instructor announcements”News Forum a ONE-WAY forum labeled “Instructor Announcements” that lets you to connect with all students simultaneously …ONCE!

Use it to share course updates, course changes, guest materials, files, audio, video, maps, field trip reminders, and test or practicum information.

The most recent posts will appear in the "Latest News" block on the right side of the course home page.

Forums – Discussions can extend the learning outside of class

Useful for students who are not comfortable speaking in class. They can take their time and submit a well-thought-out response.

• Respond to a topic, scenario, problem, or article in a forum.

• Share a resource with an explanation about why it is useful.

• Debate a current issue or role play.

• Ask students to share their thoughts before they see what others have posted.

Moodle messages…when you want finer control over who sees the message.

* Moodle Messages

Moodle messages: a site-wide messaging system that allows you to search for and send messages to individual students, groups of students, or the entire class.

Quickly view a complete history of the conversation between you and a particular student at anytime simply by selecting their name.  * By default email is sent when the user is offline.

Calendar - Use the Calendar to send automatic reminders, event details, and due dates.

Calendar can be used to set events and reminders –personal, group, or site wide.

Add closing dates to course activities such as assignments, quizzes etc. to automatically add them to the calendar as a course events.

You can export the calendar and import into ACC Outlook calendar so you can see at a glance what is happening in your course and when.

Folders – Provide lesson materials…once!* Folders

The default lesson folder included in the course template contains getting started information. This ensures consistency across courses by providing standard information ALL students need to proceed.

Add your own course modules and lesson materials.

• Course Outline • Course schedule• Study tips• Power Points and notes hand-outs,

instructions for projects, study guides.

If a student misses a class, or loses course materials, they can retrieve it from the folder without adding to your workload.

Glossary – search, tag, and categorize * Glossary

Create a library of multimedia resources such as YouTube, Games, Slideshare, Websites, Quizzes, PDF, and more.

Enable comments to engage in a discussion about the resource, or to encourage students provide alternate resources.

Record key ideas, screencasts, and demos then post to the multimedia library for student review.

Let students learn new keywords by having them build a class glossary with definitions/pronunciations etc.

Add the random glossary block to display a “new” course fact, quote, video, key concept, image or date each time a student logs in.

Each student sees only their grades.

The instructor sees all student grades. Instructors can add grades, feedback comments, and documents.Grades are easily exported to a CSV file.

Assignments (offline) –A real time saver! Plus there will be less paper that you will need to lug around with you. * Offline assignments

 OFFLINE assignments allow you to include authentic assessment methods that assess what the student will do on the job rather than a paper–which is easily plagiarized an online. • Create a rubric to easily mark offline assessments like

presentations and demonstrations while the student performs the task.

• The immediate feedback improves student learning since the activity is still fresh in their mind –and yours.

• Bonus is that your workload is reduced! Since you are grading as you go there is nothing to take home for the weekend

• Your detailed feedback is stored in the Grade book automatically, it can not become lost like a paper copy.

Assignments (Online) – Assignment directions, files, feedback and grade are in one single, easy to find location.* Assignments online

 In addition to the advantages just mentioned for offline assignments, using the assignment tool for ONLINE assignments allows you to create rich, interactive assignments.

Try embedding a video, slideshow, audio, web 2.0 widget ,or checklist with the assignment.

Encourage students to be creative in their submissions, let them submit a video, interview, podcast, poster, comic, and more…
