1. INTRODUCTION

Mumbai Railway Vikas Corporation (MRVC), MMRDA & Doctors for You (DFY)

have been working in the M-east ward of Mumbai for the past three years for improvement in

the socio-economic and health indicators of the resettlement colonies PAP’s. Earlier services

were provided through outreach health camps and various community based programs but it

was realised that there was an urgent need of scaling up the additional services at Lallubhai

compound & Ambedkar Nagar, Mankhurd. After consultations with community stakeholders

and senior officials from MRVC, It was decided to provide health services on daily basis

through the MRVC health centre at Lallubhai compound. MMRDA supported the proposal to

expand the services and immediately provided 5 extra tenements for the health centre. New

Centre was inaugurated by Mr Rakesh Saksena (MD MRVC), Mr R S Khurana, Director

Project (MRVC), Mrs Alka Mishra CPO (MRVC) and other

Officials from MRVC on 11th November 2013.

This centre now has dedicated Dental Clinic, Rehabilitation centre for Physically &

Mentally challenged persons, General OPD, Gynaecology OPD, Pathology laboratory and

Immunization OPD etc. All these services are being provided on daily basis through a team

of 35 trained personnel’s (Doctors, Nurses, Medical Social Workers & support staffs). The

main objective of the project is to provide preventive, promotive and curative health care

services in these resettlement colonies PAP’s. DFY has now been providing health care

services to more than 1.5 lakh people, residing in resettlement colonies of MMRDA &
