GREEN DAY

The Grade 6 Leadership group is sponsoring a “Green Day” on Tuesday, March 17th. Help us celebrate St. Patrick’s Day by wearing green and show your school spirit at the same time! As usual, a $1 or $2 donation for participation in the day would be greatly appreciated. All donations will go directly to support our St. Vincent de Paul project.

CATHOLIC COMMUNITY OF CARING Throughout the month of February, we focused on friendship and showing kindness to one another. In our BFG groups students read the story of “Ordinary Mary’s Extraordinary Deed” and discussed ways they could demonstrate kindness. BFG groups then created friendship cards to be delivered to the community. February 25th was

Pink Shirt Day and our school recognized this important day by wearing pink shirts and in participating in classroom activities to bring awareness to the students.

AUSKICK – AUSSIE RULES FOOTBALL Students had the opportunity to learn basic skills for Aussie Rules Football led by an instructor from the AusKick Organization. This was a great experience for all students!

SOUNDKREATIONS At the end of March, students will have the opportunity to participate in Soundkreations dance residency. A trained instructor will be visiting for an entire week to teach each a class dance skills and a dance.

DANCEWORKS The Danceworks team has been working hard to learn and perfect their dance. All families are invited to attend the performance to support the tea on March 30th at 4:00PM at Notre Dame High School.

LOST AND FOUND Our “Lost and Found” bins located in the Division one and two boot rooms are overflowing! During Parent/Teacher Conferences we invite parents to look through the items.

MISPLACED PERSONAL ITEMS Please remind your children to be responsible for their personal items so as to avoid problems with lost or misplaced boots, shoes, jackets, etc. Parents can help by making sure all items are clearly labeled, as many personal items and boots look very similar.

CALGARY CATHOLIC SCHOOL DISTRICT MONTHLY NEWS

MARCH 2020

CCSD welcomes new chief superintendentCalgary Catholic is excited to welcome Dr. Bryan Szumlas as our new chief superintendent.

Dr. Szumlas is a familiar face throughout Calgary Catholic. He has been with the district for 29 years and has most recently served as area director for schools in north central Calgary and Airdrie. He has also served as a teacher, assistant principal, science supervisor, vice principal, principal, supervisor of teaching and learning and director with Instructional Services. He is well known for having chaired the Alberta Assessment Consortium and for his work on mentorship.

“I am honoured to work alongside the many talented staff members in our district and to lead Calgary Catholic in the next chapter of providing excellence in Catholic education,” says Dr. Szumlas.

Dr. Szumlas believes that as chief superintendent, it is important to always keep sight of what matters most—our students. “Every recommendation we make as an administrative team to our board must be rooted in the question, ‘How does this effect students in the classroom?’” Dr. Szumlas firmly believes in working closely as a team, valuing each person and that “with God at our side, we can make the necessary and sometimes tough decisions so that Calgary Catholic staff, parents and students can Live and Learn in our Catholic Faith.”
