PRINCIPAL’S REPORTThank you to everyone for your support over the last few months to help keep Jilliby PS running smoothly. I am absolutely delighted to have been successful at interview to secure the position of Principal permanently. I love the friendliness and family focused atmosphere that exists, and I am so pleased to have the opportunity to lead such a beautiful school. I look forward to working with you all and want you to know I embrace an ‘open door’ policy. Please don’t hesitate to come and see me if you have any questions or concerns. It is common for misinformation to whisper through the community and the best way to be informed is to seek clarification from the school. When there are problems don’t feel your voice won’t be heard. I am a willing listener and I may not always have the answers but I do know who to ask!!

Next term our school is hosting the 130 Year Celebration of the school. While this is not like a centenary we wanted to take the opportunity to showcase our children’s talents and include them in the historical knowledge we are gathering. Our aim is to assist the students to learn about the past by interviewing people from the community who have attended our school or lived in Jilliby. If you are interested in being a part of the children’s learning please contact the office to give us your details. We will arrange a day or time to suit and bring you in to be interviewed. If you know someone who may be interested please give them the school phone number and encourage them to come along and be a part of this fabulous learning challenge.

This week Mrs Wales and Mrs Bowes attended the first training sessions for PBL. Mr Bof and myself will be attending training next term.

NAIDOC DayNAIDOC day is the first day back in Term 3- 23rd July!!!!Our students along with Wyong Creek PS, Kulnura PS, Central Mangrove PS and Somersby PS will be involved in a whole day of activities to celebrate NAIDOC Day. This means there will 299 students and their teachers here on that day and so we cannot really accommodate opening this event up to parents. We do however need helpers on the day to assist with the distribution of food from the canteen and BBQ. If you are available to help could you please ring the school (0243551240) and put your name down before the end of the term. Michael Kay will be organising the BBQ and Melissa Moylan is organising the rest of the canteen food.

REWARDS DAY TERM 2 – Wednesday 3rd July (Don’t send lunch)

PIZZA AND POPPERS for SAPPHIRE

All students who have achieved their Sapphire Award will be provided with a Pizza and Popper lunch on Wednesday 3rd July.

CONGRATULATIONS!!!

(Students attending the NAIDOC League Tag Gala day will get their reward on Thursday.)

PRINCIPAL’S REPORT

AttendanceMy child won’t go to school. What should I do?You should contact the principal as soon as possible to discuss the issue and ask for help. Strategies to help improve attendance may include a referral to the school’s learning and support team or linking your child with appropriate support networks. The principal may seek further support from the Home School Liaison Program to develop an Attendance Improvement Plan.

What might happen if my child continues to have unacceptable absences? It is important to understand that the Department of Education may be required to take further action where children of compulsory school age have recurring numbers of unexplained or unjustified absences from school.

Some of the following actions may be undertaken:Compulsory Schooling ConferencesYou may be asked, along with your child, to attend a Compulsory Schooling Conference. The conference will help to identify the supports your child may need to have in place so they attend school regularly. The school, parents and agencies will work together to develop an agreed plan (known as Undertakings) to support your child’s attendance at school.

TIP:Be consistent: You will only confuse your child and create anxiety if you constantly change the messages you give them. If you tell your child they have to be at school every day and then let them stay home because it is convenient or give in to their demands, then the child learns that you will cave in under pressure and that you don’t mean what you say!
