This Wednesday, September 23, 2015, the Holy Cross Community
will host its third annual “Great Day of Service” where each guild will
give a day of service to eight local non-profit organizations in our area
(totaling almost 2,000 hours of service). Agencies being served in-
clude: St. Vincent DePaul Society, Olmstead Parks Conservancy, Sev-
en County Services Nursing Facility, Volunteers of America, Supplies
Over Seas, Southwest Community Ministries, Masonic Homes and
Dare to Care. Students will take on everything from working with con-
servancy efforts of the Olmstead, packaging food boxes at Dare to
Care, to sorting medical supplies to be shipped overseas for Supplies
Over Seas. “Every member of the Holy Cross community is thrilled to
once again participate in our Great Day of Service. Each year this
school-wide activity leaves a lasting impression on our students and
faculty. We are so excited to not only be able to give back as an entire
school, but to also be able to teach our students the importance of giv-
ing back to your community,” said Tim Weihe, Holy Cross President.
This is a day for us to come together as a school and truly show how
"inspirational leaders in service to their community" deserves to be in
the mission statement of our school.

“FLICKING” AWESOME
BY TAYLEA VOGT
On September 15th 2015, our Lady Cougar Field Hockey team did something they haven't done in 4 years; they beat Presentation
Academy. This game was differ-ent. The girls were not just deter-mined to beat Pres but deter-mined to make our coaches and our other teammates proud. In the first half with our star player injured, we held our heads high and pulled together. After the end of the second quarter with the score being 0 to 0, we had a ten minute overtime. As the score remained 0 to 0, it was
time for sudden death. The flicks went off and we had both scored two. Allie Just then made her shot, making it 3 to 2. Now, all I had to do was block the next shot. The girl was standing before me and I was as nervous as can be. We made eye contact and somehow I knew exactly what she was going to do. Asking for help from my guardian angel, I blocked the shot and we won! An instant excitement came over our team and the entire crowd. We had done it; we had won. The final score was 3 to 2 and goals were scored by Zoe Jessie, Kameron Bowling, and Allie Just. Way to go ladies!
WORLDFEST
BY ALAYNA HUME
On Friday September 4th, Holy Cross's Yclub ventured to Louis-ville's WorldFest. WorldFest is one of the region's largest international festivals, lasting four days and cele-brating with food, music, and dance. Cities that embrace their international culture thrive with strong growth. According to Mayor Fischer, "WorldFest is a great event for exploring and celebrating Lou-isville's many faces and cultures…" With at least 90 different languages spoken in Louisville public schools and 50% of the population growth com-ing from international residents, the city is more culturally diverse than ever before. WorldFest is a great opportunity to look at the diverse culture within our everyday communities.
Yclub members bravely took the opportunity to sample Vietnamese, Greek, Mexican, Italian, and Thai food. Many visited booths displaying Af-rican fashion and jewelry. One group made several purchases from a Japa-nese booth including pencils, Pokémon, squishy animals, and puzzles, while another received temporary Henna tattoos and bought matching bracelets. During the trip an intense selfie competition ensued, which was won by the team of Mrs. Pence and Olivia Moore. Throughout the year the Yclub will be participating in many trips and expositions sponsored by The Y including KYA and KUNA. This year Holy Cross will be representing the country of Greece at the KUNA conference in March.
