Dr. Nancy Currie-Gregg USA, Ret.
N ancy J. Currie-Gregg spent the vast portion of her career supporting NASA’s human spaceflight programs and projects. Selected as an
astronaut in 1990, she accrued 1,000 hours in space as a mission specialist on four space shuttle missions: STS-57 in 1993; STS-70 in 1995; STS-88, the first International Space Station assembly mission in 1998; and STS-109, the fourth Hubble Space Telescope servicing mission in 2002. A retired United States Army Colonel and Master Army Aviator, she has logged over 4,000 flying hours in a variety of rotary-wing and fixed-wing aircrafts. Following the Space Shuttle Columbia tragedy, she led the Space Shuttle Program Safety and Mission Assurance Office. She was then selected as a senior executive member of the NASA Engineering and Safety Center, serving as Chief Engineer at the Johnson Space Center, then as Principal Engineer. In the fall of 2017, she left federal service and joined Texas A&M University where she is a Professor of Practice in Industrial and Systems Engineering and Aerospace Engineering. She also leads Agile Technology Development for Army Futures Command projects at the Bush Combat Development Complex. Dr. Currie-Gregg received a bachelor’s degree, with honors, in biological science from The Ohio State University, a master of science in safety engineering from the University of Southern California, and a doctorate in industrial engineering with an emphasis in human factors engineering and automated systems the University of Houston. Among her many awards and honors are the Defense Superior Service Medal with Oak Leaf Cluster, the Legion of Merit, and the Defense Meritorious Service Medal with Oak Leaf Cluster. She is a member of the Army Aviation Hall of Fame, Women in Aviation International Hall of Fame, Delaware Aviation Hall of Fame, and the Ohio Veterans Hall of Fame.

THE ROSS VOLUNTEERS
The Ross Volunteer Company, the oldest special unit of the Texas A&M University Corps of Cadets, serves as Honor Guard for the Governor of Texas. Ross Volunteers attend all Texas governor inauguration ceremonies and perform the three-volley salute at Texas A&M’s Silver Taps and Muster events each year.
The group first organized as the Scott Volunteers on Texas A&M campus in 1887 (then known as Texas A.M.C.) for drill precision. It was named for Thomas Scott, agent of the board of regents and business manager from 1883 to 1891. When Gov. Lawrence Sullivan Ross was appointed college president in 1891, the company was renamed the Ross Volunteers. Lawrence Sullivan “Sul” Ross was the 19th Governor of Texas and a Confederate States Army general during the American Civil War.
Ross came to be known as a “Soldier, Statesman and Knightly Gentleman,” and all Ross Volunteers are expected to reflect his traits and values. The company is composed of junior and senior Corps of Cadets members chosen from among their peers on the basis of honor, humility, and character.
