Couldn‘t find out from Germany which telecommunication company would be the best for a prepaid card. Luckily, the taxi driver who picked me up at the airport knew.

SIM card wasn‘t the right size for iPad. had a SIM card cutter with me and an adapter to use the card in the Phone and in the iPad, which needed different sizes.

I could use the generator of Village Africa once a week for about 30 minutes.

Very slow wifi connection. 1hour to upload 25 seconds to Youtube.

I uploaded just a few very short videos from Yamba. The longer ones I uploaded from Tanga where we were every two weeks. There was a hotel with broadband.

Audioboo needed a good internet connection to record.

iMotion needed too much battery - just 2 very short time lapse videos.

NO internet connection for about 32 hours!

How to organize W


➡ At home: Try to find out if you will have internet connection in the field.➡ If you are reporting from another country: take a copy of your passport with you, printed in colours. Probably you will need it to buy a SIM card. ➡ Think about a SIM card cutter and adapters.➡ Recharge all batteries. Take plenty of them. Buy a mobile charger.➡ Take a mobile safe with you, „pacsafe“, to make sure that nobody will steal your things.➡ Install all apps you will need before, and figure out, how they work. ➡ Remember all passwords for all platforms you will use. Register before!
