Global Players See Opportunities in NFC
> Worldwide participation by several
international banks:
Barclays Bank and Orange Mobile jointly launched NFC
mobile services in May 2011.
China UnionPay and China Mobile announced in Jun 2012
their plans for 100 NFC-enabled shopping areas.
> Participation by many global players,
including merchants and telcos:
Google Wallet first launched in May 2011, and has since
revamped to draw funds from linked credit and debit cards.
AT&T Mobility, T-Mobile USA and Verizon Wireless jointly
created mobile commerce joint venture, IsisTM and would
begin trials in Salt Lake City and Austin in 2012.
> More than 200 NFC
trials/deployments in more than
54 countries since 2008
France started its pre-commercial multi-
bank to multi-telco deployment in Nice
from May 2010, and has since extended
to a total 17 French cities in 2012.
Korea launched the world’s first
commercial NFC rollout in Oct 2010 with
Korea Telecom, and since have about 2.2
million subscribers using NFC SIMs.
Turkey’s largest operator, Turkcell
launched NFC commercially in Apr 2011,
and is operating its own trusted service
manager with self-branded NFC phones.
UK announced a multi-telco joint venture,
Project Oscar in Jun 2011, comprising
Vodafone, O2, T-Mobile and Orange to
create a mobile wallet platform open to
any bank and merchant.
