I cannot begin to express howhonored I am to have received yourtrust to serve as YOUR Potentate for2018. It is a great honor and atremendous responsibility; one that youcan be sure I do not take lightly.
As with many of my predecessors,I have stood in the foyer of our ShrineCenter and looked at the pictures of thePast Potentates, wondering if I couldlive up to the legacy that they left forme. While doing so, I noticed the daterange of 1904 to the present andrealized that it’s not the Potentate thatmakes the Temple - it’s the Nobility andtheir Ladies. I will be just the“caretaker” of Abba Shrine for 2018.As such, my role is to take care of the members, their families, our patientsand our fraternity so that I can turn it over to my successor in as good acondition as it came to me, if not better.
Lady Sara and I have chosen for our moto the words “ImprovingChildren’s Lives One Day At A Time.” That is ultimately what we as Shrinersdo - work to improve children’s lives. Lady Sara’s lily is a reminder of howone day can make a change.
By working together and focusing on why we became Shriners, we canhave a great year.
Humbly Yours in the Faith,
Robert (Bob) TrachslerPotentate 2018

A Word from Owen L. SmithOur newly installed Chief Rabban
A Word from Bill CliftonOur newly installed High Priest and Prophet
It is an honor for me toserve the Nobility here at AbbaShrine as the Chief Rabban thisyear. I greatly appreciate thesupport from everyone. It is myduty and my pleasure to usethis year to make Abba Shrinebetter than ever. I encourage allthe Nobles and ladies toremember that we are here toimprove the lives of thechildren that we transport.Help me in supporting ourPotentate, Bob Traschler, inmaking this a great year for thechildren as well as the Nobles and Ladies.
Eternally,
Owen L. Smith
To the Nobles of ABBA Shrine,
I would like to thank all theNobles that voted for me in thelast stated meeting. Beingelected to the position of HighPriest and Prophet is quite anhonor. I promise to do the bestthat I can to fulfill the duties ofthe office and to try to helpmake the temple grow. I seethe main problems of theTemple as gaining newmembers and retaining the oneswe already have. I plan onworking with the rest of theDivan and the Nobility to achieve the goal.
I don’t have a magic pill to get this done so I would like toget ideas from all of the Nobility. If you have any ideas thatyou feel could help achieve this, please let me or any of theother Divan members know. The ideas should be in writingand as detailed as possible. They could be in the way ofmodifying the way some things are done or adding newthings.
It has come to my attention that there are several Noblesthat have never been to any of the Shrine Hospitals. I thinkevery Shriner needs to go to at least one hospital and taketheir tour. The wives should also attend. You can’t take thetour of Galveston hospital and come back the same person.
Bill Clifton
A Word from Rodney Davis, Sr.Our newly installed Oriental GuideNobles,
It is with great pleasure andhonor to be elected as yourOriental Guide. As a Shrine child,I can assure you that the impactyou as a Shriner plays on achild’s life will last a lifetime. Ifyou have never visited one of ourhospitals, I encourage you to visitone this year. You will seefirsthand, how Shriner’s comingtogether as one cohesive unitchanges children’s lives. Let’snever forget our Mission to helpchildren while having fun. Pleasedo not hesitate to contact me if you have any advice, suggestionsor recommendations that will help us grow our Shrine Centerand raise money for the children. Lady Elsie and I are committedto serving our Nobles and Ladies of ABBA Shrine.
I would also like to ask ALL Units and Nobles to considermaking a 5-year commitment to the Plaque Program. Fundsgenerated by this program benefit the ABBA ShrineTransportation Fund. For more information please contact meat 251.375.6576.
Fraternally Yours

A Word from Jimmy TurnerOur newly installed Assistant RabbanHappy New Year!
I am truly honored to havebeen elected by the nobility to serveas your Assistant Rabban. What anexciting time to be an AbbaShriners as we celebrate our 115thyear. Hopefully by now everyonehas picked up their pocket calendarand made plans to attend some ofour many events. The New Yearalways brings about a time ofrenewal and excitement for thecoming year. It is always exciting tosee our Shrine grow with new members and new opportunities.
Shriners Internation has a saying, “Having fun and helpingkids.” Having fun increases all the things that we need to grow:membership, attendance and participation. So let’s dedicateourselves to creating and providing more fun in everything we do.
Lady Linda and I are once again charged with putting togetherthe children’s Easter party. We both ask for your help, input andparticipation to make this another successful event.
Last but not least our upcoming events need your support andparticipation. The “Arts, crafts and rummage sale” has the potentialto be a very big fundraiser for us.
In closing I just want to once again say thank you and I lookforward to serving the nobility of Abba Shrine in 2018.
Jimmy Turner

Penny for Your ThoughtsHave you ever started
thinking about something youwere not happy about, and themore you thought about it theworse it seemed?
That’s because as you thinkone sustained thought, the law ofattraction immediately bringsmore like thoughts to you. In amatter of minutes, you havegotten so many unhappythoughts coming to you; that thesituation seems to be gettingworse. The more you think aboutit, the more upset you get. Your life right now reflects your pastthoughts. As you think a thought, you are also attracting likethoughts to you.
So, have good thoughts as we live our lives!
